Reduces the screens clarity!,
By Kirk Borde (Bedford Hills, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fellowes WriteRight for Palm m505 (98081) (Electronics)
Unlike another reviewer, i believe that the PDA scrren needs to be protected...I owned another Palm, and the stylus after a while scratched the screen, especially in the grafiti area. So when i got my new M515, i bought these screen proctectors. They are not smooth, but rather a textured surface that on the color screen creates diagonal lines similar to a color Tv with bad reception. The look of the screen is opaque. Also, i find the the grafiti recognition was greatly REDUCED when I applied these protectors. Bottom line. Not worth the [money]. Try the clear ones made by NuShiled and CompanionLink. But do get a screen protector. It will scratch eventually.

Lasts a VERY LONG TIME! Keeps screen like new!,

I hardly ever write these, but when I see a favorite product with such a low score, I must speak up! I've had these for well over a year and have only used THREE films. I can't even remember when I put the last one on my m505, and it's still in one piece and clear; it still doesn't need to be replaced. The last time I looked at it (without the film), my screen still looked brand new, though it's now 2 years old. At the rate I'm going, I'll probably replace my PDA before I need another package of the WriteRight. I highly recommend this product.

They work fine - I've used them for years,

First,
I'd only recommend cleaning the face of your palm with either 1) a damp cloth or 2) the same cleaning liquid designed specifically for glasses (not windex or anything like that). Next, use a cleaning cloth - like 100% cotton. All of this sounds basic, but the basics are too often forgotten. In my years of making this product work right - the most important thing is cleaning the screen gently but thoroughly. I use the plastic stylis to help apply the film to the face of the palm. Instead of touching the adhesive with my fingers, I use the stylis to avoid fingerprints on the film. These film covers really do work, and speaking for myself and the years I've used them - I would not use my palm long without them. They make a difference. I have friends that have not used them and their screen incurs more wear. This is the ounce of prevention. I recommend it based on my years of use and it has worked well for me.

I've used the fellowes WriteRights on several items, including watches, PDA's, Walkman, and cell phones. I'd definately recommend them if you are prone to banging up the faces on screens. Just make sure your screen is clean before you apply the film. I usually get about 6 months of use out of the PDA before I need to replace. Best to use right after you purchase your item. As for the people that are dissatisfied, I don't get it. I'm happy with them.

Beats NuShield,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fellowes WriteRight for Palm m505 (98081) (Electronics)
I saw the rave reviews for NuShield and ordered them instead. Frankly, I'm disappointed. The NuShields arrived quickly, but were heavily spotted and very cloudy. The first one I installed was scratched too much to be useable within an hour. Considering the NuShields are five bucks per sheet, I was severely disappointed. I've used Fellowes sheets on two different types of Palms (Vx and Tungsten T) and although they're not crystal clear, they hold up and do what they say they will do -- protect the screen and remain read-through-able. Also, they don't glare in high light (NuShields do this even in minimal light) and the Fellowes don't reduce the apparant light from the handheld itself (the NuShields cut the apparent light by a good 50%). I'll be sticking with the Fellowes in the future.

A waste of money.,

These are a joke. They are soft and make the stylus drag IF you can get the thing lined up right on the screen. I threw them away after 10 minutes of struggle. I waxed my screen. That's right WAXED IT! I had a bottle of ArmorAll Fast Wax handy. That is liquid, squirt it on car wax. I used a little dap and rubbed it in. I works GREAT! The screen is slippery and smooth as silk. It seems to repel finger prints and dust and wipes clean very easy. And it is cheap!

Counter to what it claims, this covering does not reduce glare and make the screen look better. In fact, it looks rather opaque and the clarity of the original screen is significantly compromised. This is apparent if you are looking at a photo album, for example. Personally I don't think extended use of the PDA can cause scratches on the screen. It is the objects in your pocket that sometimes do the harm. So you are all set getting a nice carrying case. You can "protect" the screen but then do you want to look at your schedules every day through a waxed sheet?

It's worth it to get the more expensive ones if you have a nice color display.,

I got these for my Nokia 6682 and cut them to fit, because I was balking at how expensive most screen protectors are. Because they are soft films, not hard pieces of plastic like some, they give anything viewed through them a slightly mottled appearance. Also, you can scratch them with a fingernail. If you press down hard when you write, you'll notice that they're a little sticky. But they do go on easily and come off with no residue.

After my "investment" in a Palm m505 (at the old prices!), I wanted to do something to protect my precious Palm -- and these are perfect! Easy to apply, they don't prevent me from working with my Palm while they protect it. I couldn't ask for more!

They get clearer with time, and you get used to them.,

I actually use the ones fitted for my Palm IIIc, a color unit. Same material. A bit tricky to put on, but a little care goes a long way toward a perfect fit. There were a few very small bubbles and lines in the sheet at first, but after a few days they completely disappeared on their own (osmosis?). I found the protector to become almost invisible after a few days, other than a slight texture that didn't reduce visibility much. This is a continuously backlit Palm, so that may have made the difference. I got used to the slight drag with the stylus, and it appears I will get much more than the one month use out of each. After almost a month, I cannot see any wear, and I use it a LOT. That makes them cheaper than at first may be obvious. I prefer the slight adhesive type to those that fit under the edges of the case, because no dust can get under the protector and it can't move around. So what if you have to carefully use a bit of cleaner to remove leftover (post-it-note type) adhesive. It's worth the effort. I haven't tried other types and probably won't, so I can't do a comparison. These do what they were designed to do. I do think that about [very little] each would be a much fairer price, though - but they last so long I guess it doesn't really matter much. Protect your investment.
