5.0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet
I saw them open for slipknot and have been a big fan since, this album is incredible. Dope is the best new band in 1999, yes that includes slipknot! They have skill can write songs in key and make them heavy without down-tuning the guitars! This album begins with the agressive Pig Society and by the time it is over you will have turned on continuous loop for the...

these guys aren't original at all. They sound EXACTLY like Marilyn Manson "Antichrist Superstar"-era and the more I hear them the less I like them. Just a stereotypical metal band that old people talk about ("You can't understand what he's saying", "He's just shouting "F**k you, f**k you"), which is true, in the first track, the only...

This album begins with the agressive Pig Society and by the time it is over you will have turned on continuous loop for the entire CD. Seriously there are no bad songs on this album. I have met dope twice and they are very down to earth willing to say hi and give an autograph. I have each member's signature on a ticket stub from their show and Eidsel signed my dope shirt. Do I recommend this album? Hell yeah!

Just a stereotypical metal band that old people talk about ("You can't understand what he's saying", "He's just shouting "F**k you, f**k you"), which is true, in the first track, the only part that comes to mind is a blatantly dull chant of "F**K YOU! F**K YOU!" Oooooh that's very big and clever ain't it? There's no intelligence in the lyrics or music and it all seems like its been done LOTS of times before. Only a couple of songs worth listening to: "F**k Tha Police" and "Sh*t World"... is all the swearing needed? Maybe its to cover up the fact that they are talentless.

Probably a good live band, a very dire band on disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars melodic,indusrial metal, October 5, 2000
This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
I would definately not say this is a genre defining album. It is basically the average industrial metal album.Yet;the main aspect of this album, that keeps me listening to the disc,is the instant melodies and hard hitting grooves. In my opnion,it actually does not matter, whether the music i listen to is genre defining or not(and trust me this disc is not),i enjoy music with enjoyable grooves and melodies.Dope's:"felons and Revolutionaries",combines the furious industrial metal of classic white zombie, with instant sugary guitar hooks,of many alternative rock bands operating on the scene today. The lyrics are somwehat anti establishment and should appeal to teenagers that do not have jobs,or have a dislike for school and authority. Dope basically, are angry so called-drug dealers that hate the system for personal reasons and enjoy letting the entire world know about this.I am not saying that their message is negative,i'm just implying that it is a tad cliched.Well,to conclude;the music makes up for this slacker like rage.If you enjoy your industrial metal brutal yet melodic at the same exact time,in a present moment(with a little rapcore rantings)then purchase Dope's:"felons and revolutionaries"from amazon.com now!

1.0 out of 5 stars Just Say No, March 26, 2000
This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
Alright, I'll be honest. If you like korn, limp bizkit, and orgy, you'll probobly like dope, too. But if you appriciate guitar solos, catchy riffs, and ripping vocals, you won't find it here. Only mediocore guitar riffs with little variety throughout the songs, vocals that sound like edsel is drowning, and corny high school-dropout angst are found on "Felons and Revolutionaries." Try "Portrait of an American Family" first. END

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, March 13, 2000
This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
I love the beginning of the songs they start so intense but they get a little old at the end. Either way it is a god like c.d. Tracks 1-4 are amazing but track 8 is the ultimate. I definentely recommend this c.d. if you like hard core music. They sound like old manson stuff but better. There are better bands out there like Slipknot and Soulfly and Godsmack but this band is pretty good. Also the voice synthesizers dont take away from the music like everyone says! Overall 7 great tracks, 6 good tracks.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok, but should be better, October 7, 1999

These guy's were so awesome live with Static-X that I went out and bought the cd. The entire cd uses some sort of voice distortor that makes the lead singer sound like he's singing underwater or something, it's really bad. Had they not used that silly voice distortor the cd would be so much better, as is, its just annoying.

4.0 out of 5 stars New, Mean, Angry, and Hard. As all music should be., October 16, 1999

This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
In a world of weak and wimpy music, Dope bursts onto the scene with some of the heaviest and angriest music around. I saw them live and bought the CD the next day. A much improved version of "Fuck The Police" really drives home the anti-establishment vibe to this band. Thier sound is sometimes reminisant of Marilyn Manson, but a whole lot harder and with credibility that Manson only wished he had. At least 3 of the songs have prison references. These guys are for real and they rock. If you too are sick of the wimpy crap out today like Limp Bizkit, check out Dope. They eat posers like Bizkit for breakfast

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot new metal band from NYC, October 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
Dope is an up-and-coming new metal band from NYC, with a sound that's comparable to Marilyn Manson before he made his "pop-rock" crossover. I saw Dope perform live at The Palace in Hollywood in September, 1999 and they put on a very energetic show. It was really a great performance! The drums are awesome, and the guitar riffs are excellent. They have a very industrial sound mixing in a lot of synthesizer tracks with other grooves. Once you listen to the songs 3 or 4 times, you'll start to understand the words and will be truly amazed at the talent exemplified by the great beats in these songs. Most, if not all of the songs have explicit lyrics, though...so watch out if you're easily offended. This fresh, young band is comparable to Rob Zombie, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Kid Rock, Marilyn Manson, Fear Factory, Static-X, and Orgy, to name a few. Catch them on the Family Values Tour during the Fall, 1999, and they'll be touring with Limp Bizkit too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Underground Dirty Dark Filth Music, June 22, 2000

This review is from: Felons & Revolutionaries (Audio CD)
This is one of the best bands out there today. I have been following them since their very first show in NYC and they just continue to rock more and more. You can't get tired of these songs. I must've heard these songs a billion times but they still kickass every time. The style is not unlike Manson or Nine Inch Nails, that is a a given. But it is NOT a total ripoff like others say. It is simply a style that is great, if you like dark industrial rock, are you gonna do N'sync songs just to please the world? Hell no. Dope's got the attitude, the presence and the skills to climb to the top of the rock world. Read their lyrics, go to websites about them, really, get into dope.

... because that's exactly how these guys sound. There is nothing at all original here, just a re-hash of "Protrait Of An American Family," only not as good.
