5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and informative, August 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Feltmaking and Wool Magic: Contemporary Techniques and Beautiful Projects (Paperback)
Jorie Johnson presents a vast amount of information in a concise, lively manner, spiced up with beautiful photographs of each finished project as well as its felting process. Her sections on "Living with Felt," tells the story of the importance of felt throughout history: "Materials and Tools for Feltmakiing," gives a comprehensive list of feltmaking tools and their uses; "Breed Samples," gives hands-on instructions for learning the felting nuances of various breeds of wool. The projects progress from simple to more complex, and I found them all exciting and inspirational. If I had to limit my felting library to just one book, this would be it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing designs, solid technique, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Feltmaking and Wool Magic: Contemporary Techniques and Beautiful Projects (Paperback)
Being a very enthusiastic but relative newcomer to felting, latelyI have looked at many, many books on this subject. I like this book very much-- I think the Japanese influence in the design and presentation of projects is apparent and refreshing. The projects are, for me, clearly a step above the kinds of corny and cute projects that appear again and again in so many books. ( I just don't need any more snake toy instructions) The instructions are quite detailed and I've learned some new tips. It has a nice project that explores making 3-D sculpture, which is also unusual for what's on the market today. There are a lot of felting project books that look fabulously attractive but end up short on substance. I find this to be a worthwhile edition to my own library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for the beginner felter, October 12, 2006

The author gives a concise and informative review of the history of felting and provides a reasonable discussion about different sheep breeds for the beginner. She provides a good number of interesting projects with pretty good instructions that correlate very well with her abundant photos of the works in progress. She also includes instructions about particular details that may need attention in each project, thereby adding to your knowledge base. This is a worthwhile buy for the beginner or newly intermediate felter.
