If you're an active woman, you should read this book...,

I was so impressed with both the amount of information in this book and the ease of finding information specific to a certain body part or sport. It reads like a casual conversation with a trusted trainer/doctor--all the medical terms are explained well in "normal peoplese" language--and yet it's very comprehensive and does focus both on the prevention and treatment of common sports and activity injuries in females.I played 3 sports in high school, did intramurals in college, and have participated in various adult leagues and other physical activities ever since my college graduation 5 years ago. I seriously wish that someone had given me this book 10 or 15 years ago, so I could have been doing more to protect my body and optimize my performance all this time... and I am buying more copies of this book to give out to all of my active girlfriends for their next holiday/birthday.

This book is awesome! I just read the section on knee injuries and learned what I should have known last year before I underwent ACL reconstruction. Dr Beim's explanations are very clear and readable. This is the kind of information you need to be your own advocate when visiting the doc to discuss your injury. It's so important to be armed with this kind of powerful information when you are choosing a surgeon. I sure wish I had read this book and knew what to ask my Doc BEFORE my surgery. I'm sure it would have saved me from having to go under the knife twice!I highly recommend this book for every active female who wants to be proactive in her own health care choices! It's also a pearl for learning how to listen to your body to prevent alot of those self-induced, over use injuries so common to the average athlete. READ THIS BOOK!

This is the first book that I've found that is by both a sports authority, sports enthusiast and well known medical writer. It's is great to have a source of information that is both credible, easily searchable and very useful to me as both an athelete and a women! Great job!

I got this book for my girlfriend. While not a competitve athlete she does play several sports and has been injured in all of them. I liked the fact that this book was written by a female doctor/athlete. A large part of the book is broken down by sport and explains the injuries typical of each one along with tips on prevention. My "walk it off" advice never gets a good reaction so I'm counting on this book to reduce future injuries.

This is one of the most readable books on being a female athete. There is information in this book not found in any other text. Dr, Beim is an accomplished surgeon, mom and author. I would recommend this for all ages of girls and moms interested in sports. This information is for the non-professional as well as the prosfessional athlete. This a a great book...Worth every dime.

I'm an athlete. Reading this book helped me to understand how to avoid common injuries associated with the sports I play that I had previously experienced and how to prevent them. It was so well written and easy to read. Thank you Dr. Beim! Now when I participate in any sport, I can do so with the added knowledge of preventing injury.

I loved this book! It was easy to read and understand and I was able to reference it according to the sports that I participate in. The material was written in a concise, interesting manner and it was not overly detailed. I especially appreciated the chapter that focuses on chronic conditions that can affect me during various sports, as I have mild arthritis in my neck. The exercises that pertain to this problem have already helped!

One of my daughters was an MVP Basketball player in high school. She worked hard, played hard and certainly took her share of injuries. My second daughter was a tennis player. I wish I had this book back then - the sprains, knee injuries, "collision" injuries, tennis elbow and shoulder strains they sustained during game times maybe could have been avoided with better strength training exercises as outlined. As an active, health conscious person myself, I certainly found the guidelines and exercises for the mature female athlete very informative as well. This well-thumbed book has made its way into the hands of several of my friends and was also presented to each of my daughters for when they have their own little "female" athlete!

Having raised a swimmer, bowler and softball girl we're very familiar with muscle pains, pulled ligaments and shoulder and neck issues. It's nice to hear something other then "ice it and elevate it"! Female bodies are different than male bodies, particularly during puberty, and it is nice to be able to identify and commiserate with other females on common (and not so common) injuries and the correct preventative measures to take both on and off the field. Bravo! to Gloria Beam and Ruth Winter for a well written and informative book!
