5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and honest, December 1, 2008

This review is from: Female Empowerment - A Personal Journey (Paperback)
I was so very impressed with the obsticles this woman has overcome. To be put down so many times throughout her life and come out of it with her head up high, amazes me. We have all had our set backs and criticisms in our lives but this woman has had so much more than the average person. I can honestly say that there is at least one experience in this book that every female and even some males can relate to. The author tells the reader how she dealt with these circumstances, learned from them and moved on with her life the way that she wanted to do it. She really does empower the reader to not only chase after their dreams but to conquer them. No matter what the cicumstances, she kept going.
As for her son being autistic, every parent has questioned their abilities as a parent. Being the mother of an Autistic child myself, I can sypathize with her. My family has had good days and bad days as well. It is quite stressful at times and even frustrating when trying to do what is best for your child. No matter if that child has a disibilty or not. I can say to all parents of children with Asperger's syndrome that it will get better. The older and more mature the child becomes, the more better days he or she will have.
The author is very honest with her feelings and that alone should be commended. She is an inspiration. Read the book, it will empower you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A From the Heart Story, November 28, 2008
This review is from: Female Empowerment - A Personal Journey (Paperback)
In this world of celebrity multi-tasking, we've become accustomed to hearing our stories of inspiration from the Hollywood elite. One woman's struggle against "fill in the blanK." From Angelina Jolie's adoptions to Jenny McCarthy's struggle with her autistic child, the stories are wide and varied. It is rare to hear the voice of a regular woman who is not a star, finding the strength in herself to become the star in her own life.

As I read the other critical reviews I realize that many people resent this kind of attitude in others. We aren't supposed to feel great about ourselves. Nope; if we do we're considered bragging. And we all know that bragging is only for those who society says deserve it. How dare we regular folks brag and be proud? How dare we regular folks feel as though our stories are worth sharing.

The author's story is an honest revelation of a woman's path to find herself struggling with esteem issues and being dealt a blow with dealing with an autistic child. Its easy to dismiss the feelings of inferiority that accompany this at first and judge a mother for sharing her frustration. But the author is honest.. and its not so easy to dismiss her courage in sharing her feelings.

The expression goes: life is a journey not a destination. And this story is about a journey that lead one woman to a path of personal victory. Its a light book with simple ideas that resonate in their sincerity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very honest, informative and moving., November 27, 2008
I thought this was a strong message for women to realize that they have to empower themselves through negative situations in life to achieve the success that they want. It is a very important message for strong girls. The book also emphasizes the importance of being free to express one's self through writing. Writing can help bring out your true feelings; through which one can write how they want to deal with their feelings. Kim suggests to expose all feelings, obstacles, things that completely brought you down and learn how to move forward! Learn to empower yourself to where you want to be in life. Book had an impact on me and I would def recommend to my friends.
