Couldn't find this in any computer stores, and needed something to connect my non-network printer to the router, in order to make it a network printer. This was a cheap solution, cheaper than buying a new printer. And why buy a new printer, when my existing Canon printer is fabulous?

I don't say that cuz mine didn't work. I never ordered one. But I'm not an idiot. There are no hardware adapters on the market that convert USB to rj45 Ethernet for networking capability without firmware or software. This device was meant to only convert line level signal to a different platform. Much the way a VGA to dvi cable is used. It doesn't convert the signal, it just changes the connector type. Example if u put 2 of these together and connected a USB male A to USB Male A cable between the two, ur result would be an expensive network cable. How is it that no one posted this already? Because no person with technical knowledge of networks would be looking for this. The manufacture designed it to make quick money off of a cheap product that would not work, and it's so cheap no one would return it if it didn't work...

This worked the way I planned it to. As long as it is connected to a device that provides its own power you should have no errors

Let me caveat this by saying I tried to use this for something it is not necessarily intended for. I have a wireless router that does not have any USB ports, but it does have ethernet ports. I want to connect an external storage device (WD 500 GB) to my wireless router to enable all of my families wireless devices to be able to access data on the drive and be able to save docs there. The drive has a USB jack, not Ethernet. I thought this device would solve my problem by serving as an adapter. This product was so inexpensive, I bought 2. They arrived pretty late (I think more than 2 weeks) and DO NOT WORK. I now understand that some external drives (like mine) are powered by a PC via the USB connection (in addition to the data connection of the USB). Some are powered via a separate A/C adapter. So, the Ethernet port does not provide power, therefore, I get nothing. I tried both adapters and got nothing. They don't even light up or anything which makes me wonder if the above-described issue is the culprit, or do these dang things not even work at all. Avoid like the proverbial plague if you intend to use for the purpose described herein.

The device seemingly does not work, I purchased it, went to plug it into the computer, and neither does the computer recognize that anything has been plugged in, nor does the computer recognize anything that is plugged into the device, tried this with several computers, not even the Ethernet port light would come on for any of them. Perhaps it needs a driver? After At least an hour of searching, All I can find are USB to Ethernet adapter drivers. But, no Ethernet to USB adapter drivers. Unless someone can find a driver that works for this device, I would NOT recommend buying this adapter.
