A rare book on this too often ignored tragedy,

It's lucky that this book is so comprehensive, because it's one of the few books available on this topic. The small publishing house Safer Society (VT) carries some of the only books on this topic.

A real eye opener. Great intro to each chapter preparing you for the content. Serves as a warning to make sure you are ready for what it is about to say. Great job on a difficult subject.

Elliot's book was one of the first texts on the issue of female sex offenders and remains one of the best.

This book explains issues that apply to survivors as well as predators, but the emphasis is on the former. It begins with the myths about female sexual offenders, the incidence of their attacks and what a suvivor needs to look for in a therapy and the choice of therapist. It is particularly difficult to disclose incest by a female relative to a woman therapist. Particularly if the therapist has similar unresolved issues and one's case serves as a trigger for her own memories. In one or two chapters, the author states what feelings predominate in a female sex offender and the types of dynamics involved during their offenses. If you are a survivor, male or female, you will find the anecdotes of former female and male victims quite useful. The author selected stories that differ significantly in the ways that female offenders abuse children so that everyone who reads this book will find a particular story that one identifies with the most. I wish I had read this book before joining a support group. There's a chapter towards the end that gives detailed explantions on how to form a support group and how to make it work in an efficient, compassionate and empathetic manner for everyone involved.
Note: I used the term "the author" to refer to the content presented in the book, but each chapter is a contribution by a different person.

This was a waste of time. It is old and the information is outdated. Outside of telling me there are other victims there is little value. I am 58 yr. old male, abused @ 13-17 by married woman. This book did not have the answers I need.
