Book Description

Available for the first time on Kindle. Based on the trade paperback.
Feminine Wiles conjures up 16 of the most fearsome and enchanting women to ever grace the pages of horror fiction.

Think that women are the softer sex? Well think again! These women will prove you wrong-dead wrong. Gathered in this volume are sixteen tales of ladies of darkness, women of horror, sisters of the night, witness as they turn the tables on their male counterparts with cunning, intelligence and beauty to blaze a hellish path through horror fiction.
From the fair maiden to the withered crone women have always had a place in supernatural and horror literature but never have they taken the spotlight as they do now. Read on as they prove that men aren’t the only villains to be reckoned with and that they can be every bit as lethal. Every story in this collection features a female villain in all her dark glory from the femme fatale to the wicked witch. You will find no damsels in distress or dim-witted victims in this book-only seductive, cunning, savage and strong villains to make your nightmares sweeter than you could ever imagine. Will you go willingly when they summon, will you succumb when they seduce you, will you fall prey to their Feminine Wiles?

5.0 out of 5 stars Women seem wicked... October 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Throughout history, there have been countless legends of female evil and feminine monsters. Authors often forget this, but John Grover brings us a collection of stories showcasing these oft-overlooked creatures of darkness! His research is amazing as he explores not only western mythology, but legends from across the globe!

The stories vary in theme, creature feature, and plot... vital for any short story collection. There's something for everyone! We have the classic ghost story, harpies, life-sucking beasts deep in the crypts and more! Well-written, thought-provoking, and a great read!

There are those moments when it's clear this collection was written by a male! There's some minor repetition of the heaving bosom elements as every creature seems destined to rival the latest Hollywood bombshell! Overlook the hot babe factor though, and you've got a fantastic collection of frightening tales!

Five Stars Jamie O'Connell from Kindle Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Stories that make you think... October 20, 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm always interested to see how an author handles a "theme". In Feminine Wiles, John Grover has chose to focus on villains, specifically, the female variety. I enjoyed nearly every single story in this outstanding collection. Grover handles the themes of betrayal, lust, greed, and a host of others with a deft, knowledgeable hand. He has a gifted ear for dialogue and a firm grasp on his characters. Many of the stories were well thought out and led in directions that weren't expected. In this area, Grover excelled, I believe. Taking a simple idea and building the suspense and horror and turning something that would normally be mundane into something truly amazing. If you're looking for a host of great, well thought out, gripping tales, look no further. This author has the goods!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Damsels In Distress! March 26, 2014
By Mark
Format:Paperback
The stories in Feminine Wiles tread not lightly off the beaten path. In today's age of television and movies where females are often in need of rescuing, or even on occasion may serve as the heroes themselves, this collection takes us in a different direction: focusing on villains that seem just as Cruel as Ms. de Vil herself and often just as magnificent as the evil Maleficent.
I think the talented Mr. Grover has tapped into something very unique that deserves to be explored even further in additional collections. Just as the title suggests, these women are not damsels in distress, but forces to be reckoned with again and again as each tale builds and winds and twists — and not always where the reader may expect them to go. Definitely a thoroughly enjoyable read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read! October 8, 2011
By Jamie
Format:Kindle Edition
Positives: Amazing collection of short stories! An excellent dip into the legends, myths, and haunts of feminine horror! I loved Grover's research into the ancient stories of feminine creatures throughout the ages. The stories vary in theme, creature feature, and plot... vital for any short story collection. Well-written, thought-provoking, and a great read!

Negatives: You can tell this collection was written by a man! Most of the stories feature a gorgeous creature with a few too many bosom-heaving scenes. A little less on the physical attributes and every monster need not be a beauty!

Summary: A must-read collection! Five Stars!
