Book Description

December 1, 1996
Based on the facts of women's lives, the author spells out a new kind of feminism, a "family feminism." It is a feminsim that draws women together, grounded on things they have in common, that promotes their rights while taking into account their responsibilities, that trusts women to set up their own priorities rather than try to live up to an unattainable ideal.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, a professor at Emory University, believes that the ideals espoused by feminists such as Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug are incongruous with the goals and lifestyles of the average American woman. Using information from interviews with women of all walks of life, Fox-Genovese argues that the message of the feminist aristocracy ignores the realities of single mothers and low-income earners, and invalidates the desire of many women to fulfill themselves as mothers and wives. Consequently, she believes, most women have chosen to ignore feminism altogether, despite the advances and options it has provided. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

This review is from: "Feminism Is Not the Story of My Life" (Paperback)
I wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, it isn't merely a problem of the reasoning being flawed, it isn't even, well, reasonable!

Buy this book if you want random stories about how wealthy East Coast women feel about how men are boys. Skip this book if you want a reasoned argument about feminism.
