Book Description

December 1995
For reasons largely political, mainstream philosophy is reluctant to attack feminism, instead relegating it to the status of a crazy aunt in the attic. In "Feminism Under Fire", Ellen R Klein scales the forbidden staircase to critique contemporary feminism. Ruthlessly analytical yet eminently accessible, with lucid prose she undresses academic feminism, exposing its pretensions, dogmas, fallacies, and peccadilloes. Discussing such diverse topics as feminist epistemology, philosophy of science, and pedagogy, Klein's work is a personal memoir of a female philosopher coming of age and coming to terms with feminism as it relates to university politics and teaching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feminism is dead, and Klein helped kill it., June 19, 2001

I don't know how the claim could be made that Feminism Under Fire has logical flaws. The logic is tight and concise. Perhaps those who criticize Klein's work are misunderstanding the burden of proof. Since feminists are the ones that wish to change the status quo, the burden of proof lies with them. Klein does not have to attack every feminist principle, just enough to debase feminism. She does this very effectively.

5.0 out of 5 stars coffin of feminist epistemology, November 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Feminism Under Fire (Hardcover)
I wonder why more feminists are not reading and responding to Klein, are they too afraid to take on her arguments head on?

Klein has put the final nail in the coffin of feminist epistemology, philosophy of science and pedagogy. If feminism is still alive in academia it must be the walking dead.
