Book Description

"Feminist Epistemology" is a collection of original essays exploring the intersections of gender and knowledge. It focuses on the heart of traditional epistemology - a field of study that until now has proved largely impervious to feminist enquiry. Contributors examine the traditional problems of epistemology - the nature of knowledge, justification and objectivity. However, in probing the difference that gender makes to such questions, the questions themselves are transformed. As traditional assumptions are challenged from the perspective of gender, a new set of problems is revealed. Who is the subject of knowledge? How does the social position of the subject affect the production of knowledge? And what is the connection between knowledge and politics? Taking on the insights other feminist studies have afforded to the field of epistemology, and developing new ones, this collection strives to reframe a discipline that many feminists have been keen to abandon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The foundation of Feminist Theory/Epistemology, June 7, 2011

This review is from: Feminist Epistemologies (Thinking Gender) (Paperback)
This is an excellent book! It's the foundational text for feminism/ feminist theory and feminist epistemology. Its written in the theory side of language, so sometimes it's quite difficult to understand what exactly the different authors are saying, but it has really expanded my understanding of feminism from what I thought was a post civil rights lesbian movement, to a post modern inter-sectional movement that can benefit all.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is an excellent book, worthy of reading and re-reading., June 4, 1998

This review is from: Feminist Epistemologies (Thinking Gender) (Paperback)
Feminist Epistemologies is a collection of a number of essays, by different authors with varying backgrounds. Dealing with the braod subject of feminism, Feminist Epistemologies touches on the key concepts that constitute the area of study. Raising seemingly contraversial points, and asserting outrite what is dangerous to the marginalized groups of people, Feminist Epistemologies is a great introductory book to the arena of feminism.
