Book Description

July 10, 2003
Feminist Folktales from India is a collection of Indian folk stories that presents images of strong, clever, and self-sufficient women.

Most of these stories speak of women who think, live, and feel differently from the stereotypes of women that are, and have been, perpetuated through the ages.

Hopefully, these stories will speak to all girls and women who read them. Hopefully, they will inform little girls that they don’t have to be anything other than who they are. And that if who they are is different from who they’re supposed to be, that can be a good thing.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Most welcome as a source of narratives for pleasure and cultural knowledge -- Ann Grodzins Gold -- Asian Folklore Studies, 2004

The tales are "charming in their own right with the simplicity and directness of the author's rendition of them." -- Henry Berry, The Small Press Book Review, 2003
