5.0 out of 5 stars MODERN NOIR / DEEPLY HITCHCOCKIAN
Masterful score to one of the best films of 2003. Very European flavor which appeals to a more cultured taste, (and not so much the mainstream.) The music is daring and passionate with shades of Bernard Herrmann's Vertigo and Marnie. THERE IS A BETTER AND LESS EXPENSIVE VERSION AVAILABLE FROM THE FRENCH AMAZON.COM. (The film was much more appreciated overseas.)

2.0 out of 5 stars for fans...
Not the best OST Ryuichi did, but the bolerish (a personnal vision of Ravel's bolero) is interesting and sounds really good (quite live with a classical orchestra).
If you like Ryuichi OST's, I think you'll like it as I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sakamoto - Femme Fatale, May 6, 2003

This is a sensual score which the talented composer has written so exclusively for the film. I never find Bolero an attractive piece of music; except in '10'; where I'd found it quite funny as Dudley Moore and Bo Derek's flirting music.
Mr.Sakamoto has written a variation to Bolero on this soundtrack -titled Bolerish. He has turned the most boring tune on earth into a seductive & melodic piece. The most basic, yet the most stylish tune is LOST THEME- Piano Version. Somehow I wish there were more variation to this piece in the film. You don't have to watch the movie first to like this album. However, you would definitely want to own a copy of this rare CD if you happen to have enjoyed watching this extremely well composed film by Brian de Palma.
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Brian de Palma and Stunning Mrs.Rebecca Romijn-Stamos [femme fatale herself] make quite a team to STEAL your heart and soul.Quite breath taking.

Mr.Sakamoto has always been type-casted to write oriental-related movie scores. Well, this one is definitely not one of them, thank God. This film score is sensitive, sensuous and stunning. The movie itself has been under-rated by many. Seeing is believing; watch it and you'll find out how each note fits into each frame of Brian de Palma's new film.A Collector's Item without a doubt!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy for "Bolerish", February 5, 2003

This review is from: Femme Fatale (Audio CD)
This is the soundtrack for Brian dePalma's stylish but forgettable movie of the same name. "Bolerish" is breathtaking, the rest is quirky, very modern, and not to my taste. Probably not worth the ridiculously high price unless you're a real fan of this composer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Femme Fatale theme music, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Femme Fatale (Audio CD)
Haunting. Sensual liquidity.Fabulously innovative rendering of Ravel's Bolero. All-pervading, eminently listenable Jazz theme throughout. This is the one of the rare film themes that can stand alone in my opinion.
