Product Description

There’s been a huge resurgence in bluegrass over the past several years, perhaps simply because people are realizing that there’s a uniquely American sound to the genre. Whatever the reason, banjos are experiencing a huge surge in popularity. Our FB-55 model is a step up from its brother, the entry-level FB-54, with a mahogany resonator and neck, 26.4” scale, laminated wood rim, rosewood fingerboard with snowflake inlay and chrome-covered tuners.

I know very little about banjos, but when I retired my family decided I needed one and picked out this model.
It is more expensive than a beginner instrument, but is better put together, and seems that it will keep a novice happier than a bottom of the rung model. It holds it's tune well, and sounds good with clear tone and plenty of volume. I'll need to really learn to play well before I worry about graduating to a higher level of quality

This is an excellent, entry level banjo and very affordable. I've had mine for a little over a month now, replacing a borrowed, early '70's Japanese-made banjo. Fender's MSRP is $650 and it is selling on Amazon for $200 to $300 cheaper, depending on the day. It is not playable right out of the box as you do need to install the bridge, raise the tailpiece (mine was resting on the head), and give her a tune. In fact, either have someone set it up for you if you don't know how or visit Banjo Hangout on the web to find out the basics on setting one up yourself. This banjo has a nice, deep tone with the strings provided and beautiful pearl inlay in the head. Pearl tuners and even a string cover where the 5th string goes off the fretboard demonstrate the nice little things that come along with a quality item. There is nothing else in the box but the banjo and its loose bridge, so don't be expecting anything extra. It is about 14 lbs. in weight, so when you put this in your lap or hang it from a strap (not included), you feel like you're holding a real one, not some cheap knockoff. Mine says it was made in China, in case you're wondering.
