I've been playing bass for around five years, and I've generally used D'Addario strings, but I've never been super-loyal to any brand, and tend to experiment with different brands and gauges. Recently, however, my teacher suggested these Fender 7150 pure nickel strings specifically. He says that pure nickel strings will create less wear on my frets (because the frets are also nickel).

Since I needed to change my strings anyway, I ordered a set of the 7150's, and wow! They're great strings! I can't really speak for the fret-wear aspect, but of all the strings I've tried over the years, this is the first set that sounded great right off the bat. Other strings have been too bright for my tastes when I first put them on; it takes a little while of playing them before they warm up to where I like them. The 7150's never had that issue. They're warm and wonderful the moment you put them on. They also seem to hold their tune longer than previous strings (though that might be my imagination). All in all, these are the best strings I've ever used, and I'm happy I finally found strings to which I feel good showing some loyalty.

I was looking for something to put on my new MIA J bass and wanted a flexible string, like a roundwound, but with more warmth, like a flat.
I'd read about how pure nickels could fit the bill so I bought three packs of these.
Well, long story short, these sound like heaven. There are all the harmonics and bark that a jazz can give but with the brightness (and finger noise, happily) dialled back a couple of notches. Although I mainly play with my fingers I have tried a plectrum and the sound can really cut through in a live band situation if needed.
The price of a set is extremely reasonable and I thoroughly recommend them.

I got these as a present for my bass player boyfriend and he loved it! While I am not a player myself, he says the strings feel much better with Nickel compared to other materials!

I can't find many pure nickel bass strings out there, so I'm glad Fender is still producing these. The nickel looks superb -- a brilliant whitish silver color; doesn't tarnish and turn grey like steel. The sound has been described as "warmer" than steel, and I have to agree. Lastly, the price is excellent!

I love these strings. I have them on four basses. Just a great tone and easy on the fingers and frets.

So if you've been following most of my reviews, you'll see that I get my Dad a lot of stuff. This is another one of those things that I got for him. Great quality strings that I got cheaper on Amazon instead of buying from our local retailers. My dad likes the way the strings feel and think the quality is great.

These strings are a lot less bright and twangy than most and perfect if you are going for a classic old school tone and are not ready for flats.
I have an overly bright 70's jazz bass and these really helped in taming the high end sizzle and clack. Also at this price it wont cost you much to try them out or keep a fresh set on hand.

Based on suggestions I found on the net, I tried these strings to fatten the tone of my Jazz Bass. While most round-wound bass strings tend to be bright and zingy, these strings had a richer midrange and solid lows. Tension was good as well, and surprisingly taut for medium-light gauge---I was able to maintain a low string height without much fret clatter. Easy on the fingers as well. I give them 4 stars (instead of 5) as want to keep my favorite strings, Ernie Ball Group III, at the top of my list. Recommended!
