These PU are a bang for the money. For that price nothing comes close. They have a very distintic sound and it takes some adjustment, but after that they perform very well giving you a nice balanced string definition. People are saying they are muddy, well thats true with all PU if they are to close to the strings. In my case they are almost flat with the pickgard and they sound great. Dont miss on these ones, buy them, they have kind of a vintage sound and feel only hotter.

I have been testing a lot of pickups lately including 3 Dimarzio Virtual Vintage, Fender Vintage Noiseless, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, Fender RI 54 fiber bobbin, stock American Standard and other humbuckers. I end up with this cheap MIM pups and cannot be happier. I only use the neck and middle since I use the Gibson P94 in the bridge already. I don't know how good is the bridge. One thing to watch out. You have to use 250K pot. It will sound bright with 500K pot. It is not muddy at all. Also I found the D and G string too loud. But this is an easy fix. I just push the two magnet down a little and solve the problem. This set use the same plastic bobbin like the American Standard where the magnet can be push up and down. If you have the fiber bobbin like the so called "Vintage" ones, you are out of luck if the sound is not balance. All you can do is to lower the pup and the signal get too weak. It is surprisingly good sounding pup. I choose it not because of the price, more like in spike of the price. Now my American Strat has Mexican pickup!!!

Bad Quality Control,

I put these in a Mexican Strat and they sound pretty good for the money. They aren't super rich sounding, a would prefer them a little less bright with a bit more bass response, which is personal, but they have very good touch and dynamic response. The in-between sounds are good and hum-canceling. The only caveat I have is that the quality control is bad. I metered my first set and the ohms were way off and unbalanced. My neck pickup was hotter than my middle pickup and my bridge pickup was weak. Not a well balanced set, I had to balance the set with the second set I got, which were also all over the place, and send back the pickups I no longer wanted. I ended up with a hotter set than I wanted in order to balance them. The ohms are clearly marked on the package, which doesn't seem to matter. I have had two other kinds of Fender sets in the past, which were completely accurate. But probably that is why these TexMexs are cheap, quality control is not good. But when all is said and done, for the price, the TexMexs aren't bad at all. If you have a Mexican Strat, they are definitely much better than the stock ceramic pickups. If you are thinking about these or GFS, these kick butt on the GFS pickups I have had, which were horribly unbalanced, set after set worse than the TexMexs, flat sounding, and truly the worst touch and dynamic response I have ever heard on any pickup. Whether you pick hard or soft you get exactly the same sound characteristics, completely flat and soulless as well. I yanked the GFSs and put in these and now, after balancing the set, I am pleased. I suspect that if I hadn't balanced the set, I would still have been somewhat pleased with the set when all is considered. Sound is such a personal thing, and every pickup works different in every guitar, but if you are looking for a cheap set of pickups for your guitar, especially to replace the stock ceramics in a Mexican Strat, these aren't a bad choice. I do think that Fender really should be embarrassed to be shipping these however. You think they could get their quality control together better.

The Tex Mex set knocked me out in my #2 Strat, replacing the American Standards that came new with this '06.I was so moved that the set i bought from Amazon will, get this, replace the Duncan SSL-2 kit in my Ash Blonde '79 #1 Strat (they've been in since '83). The Tex Mex tones and rich harmonics really took this guitar from excellent to f*.*n Outstanding! Now i hear those rich subtle overtones from the heavy, dense old swamp ash body- maple neck combo that the previous pickups (SD's) just could not, well, pick up. lol. Needless to say i am most pleased. Been playin' 45+ yrs.,use mainly Fender tube combo amps. Original Fender is still the best! and yet, Nothing comes close to the Seymour Duncans in my Gibsons. btw. Amazon; best price, speedy delivery, thank you very much, S.K..

I can't honestly say that I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to different types of pick ups but when I put these on my mim fender strat it really woke that thing up. I thought I had a decent guitar until I put these on. The difference these made over the stock pick ups was phenominol. I read a lot of reviews before deciding to go with these and I'm not at all disapointed. You can also go to youtube and listen to several videos of people that have installed these pick ups in their strats. For 60 bucks, I think the choice is a no brainer if your looking for that slightly over wound texas special tone. These are 80 bucks at guitarcenter. I also put them on myself. I've never so much as taken a guitar apart but if your even remotly mechanically inclined it's a pretty easy job. It took me about an hour. I hope this was helpfull. Enjoy!
