Lets start with a light rant and a little about me. Skip to paragraph three for guitar review.
I'm fairly new to playing guitar, 34 years old, and I am finding myself really interested in all things guitar now. Needless to say, I read a LOT of reviews on Amazon and other guitar sites. I find that the majority of reviews for these "low end" guitars are unhelpful, i.e. ("not as good as my '54 Fender Made in USA Strat") arrogant, ("decent for for a cheap guitar") or just plain dumb, ("changed strings and now it sounds like a $2500 Fender.") Well, me, being a smart person and also now a real passionate about guitar person, I get books and read things and take those reviews with a grain of salt. I read a "review" about a Squire guitar on Fender's site today; the guy touted himself as a "Semi Professional." and then went on to say he had this Squire guitar for "two or three years" and then mentions not ever once changing the strings.!? I doubt most "semi professionals" play a $179 guitar and don't change their strings regularly. Likely story...

So rather than trust these people who throw out a lot of common words that sound fancy and mysterious to the beginning guitarist, i.e. "truss rod," "intonation," "proper set up," (which could mean anything) I tought myself about guitars; how they're made, what to look for, what produces what type of sound, importance of wood type, history of guitars, the makers, brands, types, body styles, all sorts of stuff. So MOST of the reviews I read about guitars make me really irritated.

I bought this guitar as a spare to keep in my winter home. I fully expected to change strings and even pickups on this guitar. I was surprised and delighted when I plugged it in to my amp. These pick ups are a special retro rewind and are perfect for the music I play. You can go from twang to 60's rock. The neck is the good old Fender neck we know and love. It was nearly in tune right out of the box. The paint job was perfect. This guitar is now my fav.

The guitar came in a nice package, and was fairly easy to open, though I had a problem with it right off the bat. As I researched later on, Chinese production plants usually do a good job with everything but making sure the frets felt right. Playing up the neck just felt bad when you could see your skin nicked just by playing it. I had to bring it in to a repair shop, who found problems in the truss rod, and the some of the frets were unbalanced in the neck, giving it a buzz. In no way do I want to say anything bad about what he did, he made it just right to play, but it cost me a over half just to have it fixed up.

In short, this guitar has a great neck, solid bridge pickup, great tone and volume and even good strings out of the box, but it'd be your choice to either try and file down the frets or get a bit of a pricy tune up. In the end, and depending who you trust with it, she should play just right, but be wary about how much you're willing to pay for it.

I'm a musician on budget, so I can't really afford a Fender, I would buy one if I could, but I cant'. I bought this Squier because I wanted a Telecaster, and I love the Fender brand, even though it's a Squier. It's a great price for that guitar, it sounds really good and it keeps the tunning, it comes with a Fender 250L Nickel Plated Steel 0.9-0.42 strings, and I love these strings!!!
The guitar sounds great! A friend of mine used it and He loved it. The color is also really great! Beautiful guitar!!

It showed up early and packaged really well . All the hardware was solid and the setup was spot on. I want it for slide so I put 11's on it and had it set up again. It's a beautiful guitar and it sounds great. It has a very slight hum at high volume but for the price I can live with it. It's the first guitar I ever bought sight unseen and I'm very happy I pulled the trigger on this one. The photos do not do justice to the paint job, it really is a good looking instrument.

I love this guitar. So comfortable. Other than replacing the strings; it's perfect right out of the box. The color is a beautiful METALLIC LPB. I've always been a humbucker guy but decided to try out something different and wow... Almost kicked myself in the rear for waiting so long to play (that's right I never even touched one) a Fender guitar.
