I own a 2012 model identical to this great guitar. As a teenager I was fortunate to play my friend's new original 1962 pale blue Strat. I never forgot the sound or the feel. After retiring my 1966 drums and selling my 12 string I made the move to this guitar.

True, it's not a 1962 copy or cherished original . . . but, close. I opted out of the Rosewood because I remember the beautiful Brazilian rosewood neck on the original (new ones are nice but not as nice, and rosewood is so common that even cheap copies can have that). I do acknowledge that beauty (such as the rosewood) is in the eyes of the beholder. Even I wouldn't turn rosewood down; it just wasn't my choice for the moment. Rosewood is said to maintain its look and helps to make sweaty hands on the fret board more acceptable. Much of this was related to necks with different finishes compared to today's chemistry. Less minor maintenance (oiling) is required on natural necks. Clapton has no problem with either rosewood or natural necks. Some speak of tone difference. I can only say that, if any tone change, it is minimal. I know because I returned an identical 2011 rosewood Strat for the maple. Think 50s for maple and 60s plus for rosewood (although, in the 60s a maple neck was actually an option!). IMO a Custom Birdseye Maple is even better looking than both, but that doesn't happen in this case.

I wanted a noiseless guitar for recording around a lot of electronics. The 3 different Alnico N3s are said to be even better sounding than former noiseless. All pickups have strengths and weaknesses. Is the American Deluxe Strat perfect for one genre? No. Some say that another of my favourite choices (a Gibson) cannot sound like a Strat . . . but, a Strat has the ability to come close to a Gibson.

I purchased the same model but with the grey paint job. I have been using it now for several months with a Boss GT-100 and Fender Frontman 212R Amp. I play in the church band and the strat has proven to be very versatile. If you need a guitar that is good at just about every style of music look no further. There are other guitars that are designed for specific types of music and if that is what you play then you might be better served by another type. However, for the ultimate general purpose guitar this is it.

The Good:

Excellent build quality
Excellent tone options, especially with the switching system in the pickups. The number of tones available is just awesome
Excellent playability
Excellent sound quality, from super clean to hard rock it does it all very well... of course have a GT-100 helps in that regards

Overall I am very satisfied.
