I put this in my Fender MIM Stratocaster. I want to change that "poor" string guides that came in MIM by the American Series string guide. So nice...

What can I say? These string retainers work, and they work well. Drill a pilot hole so as to not stress the wood or the screw.

Good price and fast delivery. Replaced the stock clamp style with this new tree design. This is an easy upgrade that allows the the string to slide easier without binding during tuning. It won't make you a rock star but you look cooler trying......and then maybe not.

These are nice replacement string trees over the common butterflies, though these are NOT the roller-type. The guide itself is fixed position, similar to the barrel-type guides.

I was not aware of the nub that juts out of the bottom of these. As I was unsure of performance and possibly replacing them with rollers or barrel guides, I sanded off the nub so I wouldn't have another set of holes in the headstock. Because of this, there is a slight give, and the guides do rotate with a fair amount of force. Once aligned, though, they stay in place.

Overall, these have less friction that the butterfly guides, and hold tension just as well. The headstock on the Ibanez RX20 these went on is much cleaner looking that with the relatively inexpensive-looking butterfly guides.

Was an easy upgrade to an MIM standard Strat. Fits existing screw hole, but you need to drill a small pilot hole for the tiny stud on the bottom of the string guide. It is a five minute job, but requires some care. Loosen the two strings just enough to pull them from the nut slots and away from your target work area on the headstock. Lightly screw the string guide into place but not enough to push the stud into the headstock wood - now put the 2 strings back in the nut slots and under the string guide arms to position the string guide correctly. Make sure the two strings are in the normal playing position, properly centered in the corresponding nut slots and bridge detents, with enough tension to be straight, but not enough to jerk your loosely screwed string guide out of the wood. Stop and look your work over carefully - does it look like the string guide is positioned perfectly between the two strings?. When you are satisfied with the positioning, screw the string guide down just a little tighter, just tight enough for the stud to lightly indent the wood which makes a mark to guide your drill. Next remove the string guide and drill a very shallow hole at the indent mark - but do not drill through the headstock! Use the slowest setting on your drill, and a 1/16" or 5/64" diameter drill bit. It only takes one or two revolutions of the bit to get deep enough. Too shallow is better than too deep - because the wood will compress when you tighten her down. Now place the string guide back onto the headstock, with the stud positioned in the new hole, and tighten the mounting screw snugly. A word of caution - I saw an otherwise excellent You Tube video where the gentleman installed the string guide upside down (in my opinion).Read more ›

These Fender American Series String Guides are an improved string guide from older styles that appeared on earlier models of the Fender Strat guitars. They are easy to position and install using the included screws. The Fender string guides I've seen on older guitars were just stamped sheet metal and the strings were held in place and down in line with the nut guide nest. The roller guides utilized on the American Series guides position the strings better and improve the look of the guitar.

A great, clean look for the otherwise ugly string guide clamps. The guides on these are not rollers, but are the next best thing visually and performance wise in my opinon. The only guides that I like better are the round 50's guides for Tele's, but then I like those asthetically only on Tele's. An inexpensive mode that looks and works great. To the inexperienced eye this simple, clean looking mod can make a Mexican or Chinese instrument look more like the made in America models.

Requires modificati8ns for a standard mim strat... a small drill hole. Nothing complicated but I prefer OEM. They demand a certain word count.
