Collage Hello Kitty logo on back of guitar.

Keep it simple with one humbucking pickup.

This Strat's body is made of agathis, which in tone is quite comparable to mahogany--warm and thick, but with plenty of punch. The full-scale (25.5-inch), bolt-on maple neck is plenty fast, with its standard "C" shape. It features 21 medium jumbo frets with black dot inlays.

On the electronics front, this guitar keeps it simple. A single black volume knob controls one humbucking pickup in the bridge position, for plenty of bite (players can of course back off the volume for a bit of tonal range, or just go all-out).

The guitar features a hard tail string-through-body bridge and standard die-cast tuning machines for stable rocking, with a chrome finish to accentuate the gloss black finish.

The engraved Squier neck plate means you can expect the same quality you'd get from any other Fender-made Squier guitar. And of course, there's the fun Hello Kitty accoutrements, like the aforementioned Kitty pickgaurd, and a "collage" Hello Kitty logo gracing the back.

My daughter got this guitar for Christmas. She loves the design and how it fits her hand. The sound is really good, too! She takes it everywhere she goes and shows it off. Many people have told us they are really surprised that a Hello Kitty guitar is not a toy, but a real guitar.

We highly recommend this guitar. It plays well, sounds great, and is well-made. We do also recommend shopping around because at other sites you can find it for a lot cheaper than on Amazon.

I realize a few owners have posted glowing reviews about the Hello Kitty Strat but here is the reality...it's not a very guitar as it comes out of the box (and yes, it does come in a box because I bought one). I purchased the bubblegum pink version, same guitar, different color. This was suppose to be a birthday gift for my friend's daughter. I play, repair, and build guitars so I thought I would go over the guitar and make sure it was set up properly before giving to her.

Here's what I found:

1. The guitar's intonation was completely off and was never set up properly.

2. These are made in Fender's Asian factories to meet a specific price point so any and every part is made to keep costs down, from the tuners, saddles, strings, pick ups, circuity, to the body itself.

3. This body is Agathis which is a pine-related tree that grows in Southeast Asia. It's somewhat dense like mahogany but its tone isn't as warm. This is a very heavy body, I have several Strats and this is the heaviest by far. Because of its weight it may be uncomfortable for kids unless you use a strap all the time.

4. The neck profile is a very rounded thick "C" shape like the very early Fenders, ok, but not for small hands like young beginners.

5. Just one control... volume. Well, that's how you keep production costs down.

As it turns out, my friend's daughter decided she wanted to learn flute instead of guitar. Goodbye $199.00. I thought I would fix it a little and try to sell it without investing too much time or money in upgrade parts.

Well, one thing led to another and now it has evolved into very playable excellent sounding instrument.

I was researching a guitar for my college daughter, as her Acoustic Guitar required too much "reach" for her girly hands.

I found an article that listed the Hello Kitty Guitar in the "Top 10 Guitars for Women". And it's under $200!

Want to watch some fun stuff. Go to YouTube and search for Hello Kitty Guitar, and watch all the dudes playing with the Pink Hello Kitty Guitar, even Linkin Park.
