Wonderful Reference Book,

This review is from: The Fender Telecaster (Sheet music)
If you want to know anything about the Senior Electric Fender Guitar, this is it. It is the best and most complete book about the Tele. It talks about: Pickups, History of the Tele, Wiring, How to tell the age, it has some Great Pictures and much. much more. A must have for any Tele owner.

I bought this book after buying a Fender Telecaster guitar. The book is very informative as to the history of the guitar, from its origins in the early 50's through its various subtle changes over the years and up to the present time. The book is both detailed and concise. It contains much info on the guitar, but not "more than you'd ever want to know." It is well-photographed, well written, and generally was everything I had hoped it would be when I ordered it.

Very good, basic review of Telecaster Guitar - good value,

The strength of this book is the balance between length and information. It does not offer a lot of "star reviews" on the Telecaster, rather it concentrates on the history of the guitar itself. This is a good value.

First the disclaimer: I do not own a Telecaster nor do I even play guitar. I happen to think that a Telecaster is one of the most beautiful man made objects there is, so I got this book. I also bought SIX DECADES OF THE FENDER TELECASTER. This book was published in 1991. The SIX DECADES.. is much more recent. I enjoyed reading this one, too. However, if you can only get one, get the SIX DECADES. I do not regret having both of them. They have different pics. This book has the forwards by James Burton and Alvin Lee.

This book covers the history and the variations in the models
of Leo Fender's first (and arguably best) electric guitar. The Stratocaster may be more popular in some circles, but the Telecaster has held its own since the beginning. If you have a Telecaster you can check your serial number to identify the year and some of the manufacture changes from year to year. Every Tele owner needs a copy of a book like this.

If you're a Tele buff then you WILL like this book. It covers the Tele from inception to the date of the book. Lot's of cool pics of all kinds of Tele's including one pic of the first prototype for the Broadcaster, which turned into the Telacaster. Lot's of history and even a section on how to date you Tele.

Excellent detailed history of the Fender Telly with more than enough photographs of some exceptional examples of the grand-daddy of electric guitars to make the eyes glaze and the knees go weak on many a guitarist.
Plenty of information to help identify the different incarnations and in-depth technical details to keep your machine in top shape.

Damn good read on Fender's Telecaster guitar; the first electric guitar for the masses. Everything you wanted to know and more. I think it should be updated as it's 2010 as I type this. Not to many pages but it's worth every cent.

This review is from: The Fender Telecaster (Sheet music)
I bought this book simply as a reference guide since I was building a copy of a 1952 Telecaster for my brother. I'm a guitarist and luthier and I build a variety of stringed instruments from guitars, to ukuleles, to dulcimers ([...]). I'd never built a solid body electric before. I wanted to make sure I was staying true to the '52 external specs as much as possible, while looking into the later years of the guitar for upgrading the "innards" of the project. So in the beginning, my use of the book was limited. However, the more I read, the more I learned about the Tele in general, things I never knew about the father of all electric guitars as it matured. It was actually quite fascninating and well presented. There are plenty of illustrations and photos and the text is very readable.
It ended up putting more ideas in my head for building future guitars of the Tele genre. The book is full of accurate and interesting information on all aspects of the Telecaster family. It isn't what I'd call a coffee table book, but is an excellent technical reference and quite interesting in many other aspects. Highly recommended. |
