Product Description

Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. Jazz master guitars slung across seminal shoulders. In the hands of both men, the sound of Sonic Youth is the sound of that guitar used as part paintbrush and part cluster bomb. If anybody ought to have a signature Jazz master model, it's those two guys. Done. Fender's Thurston Moore Jazz master and the Lee Ranaldo Jazz master guitars rock classic Jazz master gestalt, Youth-fully stripped down and hot rodded right through the roof.

Just setting some facts straight here for this great guitar (Thurston Moore Sig Jazzmaster):

The amazon description currently says it has "wide range humbuckers", that is not the case. The Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster has those, this one has SD antiquity Jazzmaster pickups which sound like regular Jazzmaster pickups. They are single coils, not humbuckers.

The other review here says it has P-90 pickups. That's also not true. Jazzmaster pickups look kind of P-90 pickups and they're both single coils, but they aren't the same size and more importantly don't sound the same.

One other thing to note that isn't mentioned in the description is there are only two controls on this guitar, a pickup selector and a volume knob. There isn't a tone control or any of the other controls that are on a normal Jazzmaster.

All of that being said, I own one of these and it really is a great guitar. It is bright sounding with no way to darken it other than pedals or on the amp. I have owned about 15 different American made Fenders and this is as high a quality as any of them. Between the look, feel and sound, this is probably my favorite Fender that I've owned.

i was actually very surprised by the simplicity of this guitar, but don't be fooled, it has a very unique sound, the alder wood makes the notes resonate nicely, when you strum it you'll know. Its also a very bright guitar and it really cuts through the clutter. the p-90 are a single coil pickup, it sounds great clean, you can also get heavy sounds with the right amp and stomp box. i have many amps at home and I get a wide degree of sounds from each of the amps with this guitar. So i recommend matching it with the right amp. In my experience it sounds fantastic with fender deluxe hot rod and supersonic amps. Its not very well mated to the marshalls i put it through, not that theres not a great marshal out there for it. but on mine it was a little brittle. action is fantastic out of the box....
