This is truly one amazing guitar. Be so at any price, but especially so at the price this instrument sells for.

Okay, with price out of the way, lets focus on the instrument... A Tele in style and body shape, the Squier Cabronita is a spin off on a limited edition Fender Custom Shop guitar. One that garnered attention and set guitarists drooling, but was, as are most Custom Shop models, out the the reach of all but a few.

Squier guitars are basically Fenders build in Asia. They used to be unique in that fact, but no longer. Some guitars with "Fender" on their headstock are made in the same Asian factories that make Squiers. It is also true -- or, it should be said, "used to be true," that Squiers were inferior to Fenders. Inexpensive step children of the famed brand. No longer. And nowhere is that more clear than with the Squier Cabronita with Bigsby.

The quality of this guitar is in every way exemplary. Its workmanship is top notch. So too are its fittings and hardware. The neck is a delight to play, with beautifully finished fretwork. The pickups fine. And the Bigsby, while made "under license" is, apart from its place of manufacture, the real thing.

Worthy of particular note is the guitar's finish. Lustrous. Evenly applied. A modern poly with the look and feel of old-fashioned nitrocellulose.

But what about the sound? The original Custom Shop Cabronita guitars used expensive TV Jones pickups. This guitar uses Fender designed and manufactured ones. The bridge pickup is standard Tele fair. Single coil bright. Punchy. Wonderful. The neck pickup is a "Fidelitron" -- Fender's version of classic Gretsch model known for its complex and wondrous harmonics. Either can be used by itself, or the two can be used together.

I originally saw this guitar in a magazine that named it one of the best deals of the year. For years, I played predominately acoustic, but decided to go back to electric a couple of years ago. Since then, I've mowed my way through a few guitars, but once I started looking around at reviews of the Squier Cabronita with a real Bigsby arm, I knew I'd want to get my hands on it.

This guitar is of higher quality than its price would have you believe. The Bigsby arm is real, the bridge pick up is an authentic Telecaster pickup, and the neck pickup features the Fender Fideli'tron pickup that's meant to emulate the Filtertrons on a Gretsch guitar. At first, I thought this was neat, but would go unused for my style of playing, but I was completely wrong. I have found myself rarely switching over to using just the bridge pickup, though it does have that great Tele twang; the Fideli'tron, however, makes gorgeous lower end noises that are deep and clean. The neck is great and true as well, and plays faster than any other guitar I've owned.

I've had this guitar for about a year now, and it's just about the only thing I pick up nowadays. If you're in the market for a unique low-end guitar that's built like something easily double the price, then this is definitely the guitar you want.

Well, this says "Squier" on the headstock, but it is a great guitar. I modified the appearance with an Atkins trem bar for the Bigsby, a tortoise pick guard and a Jazzmaster cover for the bridge, which fits perfectly. I will not be making any electronic mods to this guitar. I love the Fideli'tron pickup in the neck and the Tele pickup provides plenty of twang. I sold an American Deluxe Tele after I had this one a while, because I just wasn't playing it. I have three Teles, and two of them are Squiers.

For the price, this things sounds GREAT! I own plenty of higher end guitars, from Gibson, Fender and PRS, but for the money, this thing is a steal. The only complaint that I have with it is that I really think they could have lowered the action a little more from the factory.
