Book Description

March 1, 1997
Clear instructions for incorporating this Chinese art into your personal environment to create balance and prosperity.

The Feng Shui Companion is a user-friendly handbook for anyone interested in employing the ancient Chinese art of geomancy for creating balance, harmony, and prosperity in their personal environment. Feng shui, the Chinese words for wind and water, is a time-honored system of rules, concepts and principles that explain how our lives are pragmatically and spiritually linked to our environment. As the author shows, based on his own experience, these principles can be implemented at little cost in both new and existing buildings, often with significant improvements to the physical and financial well-being of the people who live in them. Just a simple change in the placement of furniture or the addition of a plant to a room can have a noticeable impact on an individual's life. With expert summaries of the key feng shui concepts, the author provides clear instructions for creating a place in which you want to spend time rather than one in which you are constantly trying to escape because "something doesn't feel right."

Unlike other books on the subject, The Feng Shui Companion details specific ways to incorporate feng shui principles into your own home or work space.

The author shows how just a few seemingly inconsequential and inexpensive changes in both new and existing structures can have enormously positive effects.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Plenty of complex coverages of the Chinese principle of Feng Shui are now on the market: consider this a more user-friendly version than most, using the author's own experience to demonstrate and explain the principles of Chinese harmony and design. Summaries of key concepts and their applications in Western lives outline connections between a created environment and its real comforts. -- Midwest Book Review

More About the Author

George Birdsall ( born 1952 and still going strong)
Born in Sydney Australia, trained as an engineer and soon realised my skills were more in management and organising. Successful business and building project career led to an interest in Feng shui after building a building in Sydney's Chinatown. Took a sabbatical from 1992 to 1995 , practiced and taught Feng shui from a pragmatic point of view and wrote a best selling Book " Feng Shui - The Key Concepts" ( "Feng Shui Companion" is the US edition)
It has sold over 50,000 copies and is published in 8 languages. I have recently written an e book called "Feng Shui Symbols - Ancient secrets to Love and Wealth" and "Affordable Home Decorating - Your Own Interior Design Class"
I write regular blogs at http://www.georgebirdsall.com and http://www.therenovationplan.com
I like to write about how when things are simplified and common sense is applied magic can happen and life flow more smoothly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dry reading, May 28, 1999

This review is from: The Feng Shui Companion: A User-friendly Guide to the Ancient Art of Placement (Paperback)
User friendly? I think this book has some good advice, but is rather ho-hum. Dry information doled out and not in great depth. Better beginner books would be "Feng Shui Handbook" by Master Lam Kam Chuen and "The Feng Shui House Book" by Gina Lazenby.

As a Feng Shui consultant and lecturer myself I recommend this book for anyone wishing to gain an introduction into this fascinating subject. The reader can begin to apply the rules of Feng Shui straight away and begin to see the changes in their lives and the lives of their families and work colleagues

5.0 out of 5 stars A easy to read and practical book for everyone., July 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Feng Shui Companion: A User-friendly Guide to the Ancient Art of Placement (Paperback)
This book manages to explain a sometimes difficult subject in easy to understand language. It allows any student of feng shui a chance to understand the underlying principles and then explains how the reader can apply them in every day life. It is well illustrated and is written with many stories and examples of things that have happened to people who have tried out the principles. It is a great read and has the potential to change the way you view your everyday environment and maybe your wealth, relationships, fame or career
