Book Description

September 1, 1998 Compass
Feng Shui (fung schway) originated in ancient China, as farmers sought to survive through finding harmony with nature, but in recent years it has moved to the West and entered the mainstream of the modern design world. Internationally renowned interior designers, architects, and landscapers are adopting feng shui precepts in their work, and stories abound of the remarkable, positive impact feng shui has had on people's lives. This informed and informative book offers a clear understanding of the historical roots of feng shui, its fundamental principles, and shows how they can be used practically today. With photographs of both classic and modern examples of feng shui in practice, Feng Shui Design offers inspiration and down-to-earth ideas for anyone to follow in considering home, garden, or office designs. Lavishly illustrated with color photographs, drawings, charts, plans, and original calligraphy by Master Lin Yun, Feng Shui Design will be required reading for designers, architects, and anyone wanting to explore this ancient art.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Rossbach's previous books (e.g., Interior Design with Feng Shui, Dutton, 1991) show how feng shui uses placement to create a harmonious, restful, energizing environment. Here, she and Yun aim to "achieve a broader and deeper understanding...of feng shui" by examining its influence on Western design, its tenets, and its use in China in landscaping, architecture, and business and residential interiors. An excellent purchase for large interior design collections.

This review is from: Feng Shui Design: From History and Landscape to Modern Gardens and Interiors (Compass) (Hardcover)
This book is made for anyone to understand. Through great pictures and words, it starts you off on the world of Feng Shui. The authors adhere to the modern branch of feng shui, which is great... how else can we know what to do with our computer and tv? great book! We painted out new business yellow inside to promote calm, and greens outside to promote growth. It's in the book.

Sarah Rossbach is the authority on feng shui in the United States. Although I have read four of her books, I particularly loved this book because of the rich text and beautiful photographs. After repeatedly coming back to read it over and over again, I focused on the baguas, and created changes in my home and office. Within weeks of doing so, several positive changes occurred in my life. I truly attribute it to listening to the wisdom contained within Ms. Rossbach's book. I highly recommend this book to people interested in creating order, harmony and beauty in their living and working environments. This book is a classic, destined to be around for generations.
