We love these and buy them regularly despite the occasional hard one, because they are the only ones we've found that my wife won't have a chemical reaction to.

The bright green color in the other brands comes from tartrazine (yellow 5), a chemical by-product of coal tar. It's been shown to increase irritability and other effects of ADD in some people (like my wife), and in others, actually causes serious allegric reactions. That's why other colors can be listed generically as "artificial color" in some products, but yellow 5 always must be listed explicitly.

So, that pale "more like yellow" color one of the reviewers complained about is...well, that's the color of actual food - dried peas with wasabi on them. The bright green that seems so attractive on the other brands is someone's industrial waste disposal problem that they've lobbied to keep legal and convinced you to pay for the privilege of eating and feeding to your kids.

I don't want to sound like a health nut, I eat lost of junky food. But after 20 years of undiagnosed ADD, my wife was finally advised to stay away from this color, and in the 10 years since, life is Better with a capital B. Her mood swings, anger and irritability that came from raging ADD symptoms are a memory. (One that comes back with a vengance every few years when she forgets to check the label on some food that doesn't seem remotely like it would have artificial yellow.)

Do you know anyone who is perpetually irritated? Do your kids sometimes get way out of control? Well, that could be a million things. Really.

I consider myself a fan of wasabi peas, having tried several brands. These peas were shipped with five bags broken in the box, with peas leaking from the box. The remaining bags were sealed OK, but this was disappointing. The appearance is green to brown, as others have noted. They were plenty crunchy, although some were hard. The wasabi is light, with barely any heat. There was a definite strong flour taste to them, too. If you are a fan of wasabi, I suggest looking elsewhere. I know I will not be ordering them again.

I'm a Wasabi Peas lover and usually buy them at Target or Whole Foods. I love Wasabi and GREEN peas.

However, THESE are NOT green (despite the photo on the bag). Subscribed to this product and the first box arrived (12 bags) with 6 of the bags open on the bottom (seems like pressure popped). In all of the bags the peas were almost brown colored and the wasabi taste was so mild I could have eaten a handful without even blinking. Some of the peas even tasted a bit stale.

I called Amazon and had the order refunded, canceled my subscription.

Going back to WholeFoods for the time being.

5 lbs is like a lifetime supply! these arent the bright green color we're used to, rather yellow brown (per the picture). however, the taste is fantastic. the hardness/crunchiness others complain about doesnt bother me. i like them crunchy. Maybe dont buy if you use dentures or have weak teeth. but then stay away from all crunchy foods.

I was given a bag of this by a co-worker who wanted to get rid of it, and I can see why. It's absolutely horrid!
Mind you I've had a lot of wasabi peas in my life and enjoy them on occasion. These peas sting and burn. It was a very unpleasant experience.

The packaging lists "wasabi powder" as an ingredient. I highly doubt this is true. I've had real wasabi root in Japan and this not what it tastes like. It's really horseradish powder. Real wasabi doesn't burn like this and is rarely ever found in processed foods due to its cost and the volatility of the chemicals in it.

These peas are brown.. that by itself is acceptable, because canned peas are sort of brown like this too. But they are also rock hard and caustic. No, not crunchy. ROCK SOLID! Imagine putting a lump of that radioactive green cheap sushi restaurant fake-wasabi into your mouth. It's the same burning sensation. Putting 4 or 5 at once in my mouth made my tears well up. If you eat them one at a time, however, the taste is surprisingly different and no burn. Eaten one at a time, there is no noticeable flavor of any kind. Just rock hard lumps of fried starch and what once was vegetable matter.

Let's not even talk about the fake-Asian marketing "feng shui". Wasabi is Japanese, feng shui is a Chinese concept and practice of arranging living spaces to harmonize spiritual energy and surroundings. What does this have to do with a snack food? This product in no way promotes balance or healthy living.

Horrible horrible product. Do not buy this, unless it's as a prank for someone you hate.

These wasabi peas are bad. I should have read the reviews before getting them. The peas are not fresh and they taste strange. I bought other ones from nuts bulk.

I purchased these on Auto-Ship. Unfortunately I didn't think the order went thru & pushed it again. I wound up receiving two boxes of what I'd like to call "Rocks". Actually, more like 24 bags of pebbles. I thought I was going to break my teeth! And the Wasabi coating immediately comes right off as soon as you put it in your mouth. Not very hot either!
I had never purchased them on my own before, so I had some "seasoned eaters" try them. They all told me that the problem was that they were stale. I opened the 2nd box just to see if it was a batch issue & that box was just as bad, stale and, rock hard. I cancelled both subscriptions. I will never buy from this company again... Don't you!!!
Now I am about to try another vendor. I am definitely reading ALL the reviews & comments first!!!
