This thing is amazing. On its lowest setting (7lumens) it is brighter than my previous 3 watt led flashlight. On regular (40 lumens) it is about 4 times as bright (subjectively), and on high mode (70 lumens) it is comparable to a car headlight.

On regular and high mode it needs to be moving because otherwise the lack of circulation causes the body to become quite hot (hard to pick up hot). I can imagine that this could lead to it becoming a fire hazard. -- However, walking or biking provides enough airflow to keep it merely warm.

Also: it's really small. About the size of a lipstick tube.

I have noticed that high mode only seems to work when the battery is well charged. What this means is that you can only use high mode for half an hour or so, after that it will switch off. You can still use regular mode, but I don't know for how long because I've never exhausted it. I have run it for over an hour on regular after the high mode cut out.

The only real drawback is that it uses fairly expensive and uncommon 123A size batteries. Because of this, I've ordered the 2xAA version as well. It is a bit bigger, but still very small.

This is a great light, and I think that the new generation of LEDs in general are pretty amazing. If you've never seen one of these new tech LEDs (post 2007 basically), you will be amazed at how bright they are. -- Totally worth the, apparent, price premium over regular LED flashlights.

this flashlight is tiny, and much, much brighter than anything 10x its size. It uses a CR123 battery which can be difficult to find, so buy and keep a spare around, but this is a great flashlight, and it's small enough to keep with you at all times, so when you need it you will have it. It has multiple power levels, which you get to by turning it on and off quickly, Medium/high/low/flash (ow my eyes)/SOS(neato morse code, but it seems a bit slow) -- if you're like most you'll only ever use the medium, though if you bother with low, the battery will last longer, and it's still plenty bright enough.

Incredible flashlight. Handy clip on keychain attachment that doesn't arrive attached to the light and the strong little o-ring can be a little difficult to install, but once it's there one handed hooking and unhooking from keychain is a breeze. Very highly recommended. Very very highly recommended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great light, August 3, 2008

For the price, you cannot beat this light. If you are not familiar with the LED technology used in this item you will be blown away by the brightness. The twist on-twist off mode selection scheme takes a bit to get used to but I do enjoy the multi-level output options.

The only two cons I have with this light are this: 1. There is minimal difference between the medium and high settings. 2. The SOS function is painfully s-l-o-w.

All in all, if you are interested in getting into high tech LED lights this is a great starting point.
