This is my first "good" flashlight, I did alot of research and this is the model I chose for various reasons. There is newer LED technology out now and when I bought this, but I liked the battery life to lumen (brightness) ratio with the R5 LED, the moonlight and other common use modes are actually bright enough, I am not just concerned with the extra brightness, of the new LED's IE the S2. Each user needs too look at his/her needs and make a decision from there. Do you want maximum throw for 100 yard shots on a weapons mounted light? Then this may not be the ideal light for you, I will tell you that this light has good compromise between throw, flood, blinding brightness and battery life. For most people including myself this light makes an ideal EDC (everyday carry) and would be a pretty darn good weapon mounted light for short to medium range at least 50 yards. The newer flashlight technology is night and day over anything from several years ago. In terms of size, weight, output, battery life, and versatility. These Fenix lights are a very high quality and value when compared to other high end brands that cost much more and don't have near the brightness, you can't go wrong. There are other high quality/brightness brands like 4sevens, I just like the features and accessories available for Fenix. These lights can replace several items in your kit. They make a great backpacking/tent lantern, with the white diffuser (included in this package) In a much smaller/brighter package than any compact battery powered lantern that I've ever seen. That is the most useful accessory in the bundle, in my opinion. The traffic wand could prove useful to me some day in a pinch, or if you are a police officer.Read more ›

This thing is a compact powerhouse! It is by far my brightest flashlight. You can read lengthy reviews on some of the other listings for the fenix PD30 and for the most part they are correct. It's fairly easy to use once you figure out how to access all the different modes. I haven't had occasion to use mine much yet, but I keep it close at hand in my vehicle. I shopped amazon for the best price on this item and it's roughly the same price as other amazon sellers, but includes the accessory kit. I'm not sure I'll ever use all the accessories, but hey, it was a bonus! They delivered quickly and arrived in perfect shape.

Superb.

Made me retire all the other flashlights I have, big and small.

I even use it in daytime, when I look for a book on my bookshelves.

My daughter, who cycles to school, stuck one on her helmet. It's always there.

I also got rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Also diffusers.

The Fenix PD30r5 is one of the best flashlights I have EVER used. Great for tactical use and also great for camping!

I like this flashlight so much I bought a second one as a spare just in case the one I use every day gets lost or breaks down. I was hesitant about Fenix flashlights at first because they are made in China, but my 1st PD30 has been in use for about 4 years now without a problem. My friends have had similar results with theirs. Shop the different models as they come in several lengths, mostly related to the type of battery they use. I like this model because it is the right size for me, but most of my buddies go for the models that use AA batteries.

If you are wondering if this flashlight is worth the money.....yes it is. I have owned this one for a little over a month now.

Pros: It's compact, waterproof (tested underwater for 30 minutes) yes, it still works, bright as all get out

Cons: The type of batteries that it uses (123's) and they are expensive if purchased in singles ( around $10 each and it takes 2).

I got this flashlight in March 2011I and it lasted almost 8 months before it died. That may not sound like a long time but that was almost daily use and dropped numerous times. Because it had a 2 year warranty I contacted the seller and they replaced it with a new one. You just don't get service like that much these days.
