Updating: I just swapped out battery and rebooted. An icon now is found in the apps directory where you could open it like an app. This sure is some cockeyed way of programming the install! But the dev is probably forcing you to put his widget on your homescreen first and hopefully leave it there and then rebooting gives you the ability to have the app icon. If you do like this app, at least you now have the choice of app or widget. I still don't care for it for the many other reasons I wrote below, but now the app runs all day and can't be killed with a task killer - it comes right back 10 seconds later in the background! If you delete the widget, the app still runs all day! The widget is still ugly and not coded correctly for landscape, and the calendar is still useless as a way to view progress unless you want just a summary of calcultions or feel like clicking 50 times and have a real good memory of what you read.

Not even programmed right! This widget in landscape is just a long white rectangle where the letters are outside the borderline. Only fits right in portrait. Calendar is ridiculous. I put in weight and height so far, and all it shows are a red line and yellow line. I have to click every box on the calendar to get the info? Why not just let me see at least weight actual numbers in the calendar boxes? Widget only shows total lost or gained and the last gain or loss and how much to the goal for one person, but you don't know the name of who it was (the last person you were working on). So if I add an entry for Person B, I have to remember to go back into my name before I close it out or it will be showing the other person's stats on the widget because it shows no name on it. The other issues still stand and are annoying enough to keep it at one star for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Serious Reservations June 26, 2012

I downloaded this app for my son, who is a weightlifter and could use this intelligently, especially after reading the helpful reviews about maneuvering through the initial setup. However, I have profound concerns about the utility and psychological safety of an app that encourages people to weight themselves DAILY and then somehow provides "meaningful" data, such as BMI (a very emotionally loaded number for many people). Obtaining an accurate BMI requires more than height, weight, age & gender. Therefore, in the wrong hands, this app is not only inaccurate but potentially damaging.

When I then consider the UI difficulties already mentioned, the app has very limited utility. The issue of potential updates is still up in the air, as one reviewer pointed out. I, for one, get pretty cranky when I can't get support from Google for an app from Amazon that Amazon no longer carries (think wp clock, a live wallpaper, which explicitly states they won't give updates unless you have a Google purchase code). How useful is this app in it's present state, assuming you may not have updates available?

Please developers, listen to this review. Don't encourage people to weight themselves more than a couple times a week. Don't allow a BMI unless you have adequate data, which you have the fields built in to obtain. Provide info about what are healthy ranges for people at different ages and circumstances. Have built in triggers that will tell a person to seek medical advice if BMI or weight falls outside a certain range. Without such precautions, this app is potentially dangerous.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who knows? June 26, 2012

Thought I would love this app, but when I try to input a user it won't go past name, bday, and sex. I already know all that about myself. I was wanting to track weight loss, BMI, etc. Any clues on how to get to the next screen?
If I finally get it to work I will change my review.

2.0 out of 5 stars getting past the user creation is simple June 26, 2012
Verified Purchase
Aside from what people are saying, getting started is easy. After you create the user (keep hitting next when done with screen), just click the little feet icon at the top. Anyways, my review is that this app is pointless. You are literally doing the same thing you can do for free. Just adding your weight every day. For free you can write it down at home. Whatever. As a free app of the day, sure. But I wouldn't pay for it. If it gave you healthy eating tips or exercise tips, maybe let you tell it a goal weight and helped by giving tips to reach that goal, but nothing. Heck, for absolutely free I could just tell a friend every day. What a ridiculous app to try and get people to pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly programmed June 26, 2012

Had to switch from portrait to landscape to enter user info. No intuitive way to enter data. How Amazon selected this as a free app of the day is beyond me. The only reason is that the publisher knows someone at Amazon. This is a basic program and the last one this publisher should author or post to save us from programming incompetence. Harsh..a bit...but your wasting everyones gime and knocked someone at Amazon that could have presented a much better app.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good concept, but needs work June 26, 2012

This app has some interesting features, like the ability to record various body measurements including biceps and thighs, in addition to the usual weight and waist. You can even record the growth of your "baby bump".

Unfortunately, there are also a number of issues. The first problem that has put a number of people off this app is that once you input your name, age and sex, it doesn't appear to let you do anything. You have to press the small button in the upper left that looks like a scale with feet. That is apparently the home button. It would be nice if there were something pointing this out, as it has no label.

The app defaults to measuring your height in feet and inches, but your weight in kilograms, an odd combination. The units can only be changed by going into Manage Users and selecting Edit User. This has to be done for each person who uses the app.

On my tablet, everything is small and there is a ton of wasted space. The calendar, for instance, only takes up little more than 1/2 the screen.

While the app does have the ability to export to a file, it lacks a cloud synchronization feature. I'd like to have this app on my tablet and phone and keep them synced.
