Excellent product. This Carbonyl form of iron is much easier to digest than traditional iron supplements. I was really surprised at the difference. Dramatically reduced side effects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for us, October 2, 2011

I purchased this product for a family member who was in a years-long struggle with anemia. Compared to other supplements, it was extremely well tolerated and it worked. It was the most tolerated, followed by iron carbohydrate complex, which was similar to iron gluconate. Ionic, uncomplexed iron like ferrous sulfate was the least well tolerated supplement. It was the only product that let us get back to normal serum ferritin levels.

The active ingredient in the product is carbonyl iron, a very very finely divided form of elemental iron. It slowly oxidizes in the digestive tract to continuously liberate small quantities of ionic iron. This is done in the presence of all of the other "stuff" in the digestive tract, which chelates the iron as it is produced. The main negative side effect we experienced is discolored stools, which are completely harmless but potentially disconcerting.

Because of occasional bouts of anemia, I have to take iron every day to keep my hemoglobin in the normal range. Carbonyl iron is much easier for me to tolerate than ferrous sulfate. CVS used to have a store brand that was much cheaper, but they no longer carry it. For me, this type of iron is worth the extra expense.

I have to take iron supplements and these are the only form I can take that did not mess me up of give me cramps... I have tried all other available forms with bad results - even the "gentle" formulas messed me up... If you need to take iron this is the only way to go.!!

Due to gastric bypass surgery, I have to take supplements daily. I have found this brand to be easy to swallow, non-constipating and my blood levels are always in a good range.

I have anemia and I use Feosol iron pills for it. It really helped raise my iron level and is gentle on my stomach. I am pleased with the results after taking these iron pills.

These are the only iron supplements that I could tolerate - no upset stomach and no constipation. They brought my iron levels up to normal range, and I eat very little meat. So if your iron is low, buy this brand.

I was finding it almost impossible to treat my anemia because of the side effects of taking iron supplements on my digestive system. Then I discovered Feosol Carbonyl Iron. No more digestive problems and my anemia is under control. Every once in awhile I'll see some new iron product that promises to be non irritating but I always come back to Feosol Carbonyl. Well worth the extra cost.
