Editorial Reviews

Glossary's new album, Feral Fire, is its first for Lucero's Liberty and Lament label (Glossary's Todd Beene also plays in Lucero), and is marked by a testifying batch of R&B and country tinged rock songs that explores the band's dysfunctional relationship with time, religion, materialism, the universe and southern ideals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great band April 30, 2013

I want this album and have been looking for it since I heard "Lonely Is The Town" on a local college radio station in West Virginia. It has taken me two weeks to find it. Reminiscent of Thin Lizzy whom I love. Take a chance and buy a copy...I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could be Classic Rock's saviours! April 6, 2011

This is a fantastic album by a Tennessee Rock N Roll band called Glossary!

I'd never heard of them before until early 2011 when members of some of the online music groups that I participate in began posting lists of their favorite albums from 2011. These guys were on maybe two-thirds of the lists so I decide to check into them. And they're the real deal!

Some of their harder songs remind me of the 70s Rockers Thin Lizzy who sang "The Boys Are Back In Town", and "Jailbreak". The harder songs also remind me of "Born To Run"-era Bruce Springsteen.

The slower songs are slightly Country and/or Blues flavored, and remind me of certain things I've heard from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Black Crowes, the "Sticky Fingers"/"Exile On Main St."-era Rolling Stones, and John Cougar Mellencamp.

This album has solid, solid songwriting, memorable tunes, and vivid lyrics. A really excellent album!

I also read that this is their sixth album so I've been aquiring their older albums too. And I really like the "How We Handle Our Midnight", and "The Better Angels of Our Nature" albums by Glossary.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Band April 3, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a fine, energetic recording from a band in the Memphis, TN area. I live near Memphis and had never heard any music by this band until I bought "Feral Fire". If nothing else, that shows how bankrupt todays radio station playlists are when it comes to playing music from good, upcoming bands.

The band Glossary has a unique sound that is sort of hard to pin down or categorize. When I first listened to this album I heard echoes of Tom Petty, Thin Lizzy, The Counting Crows, Whiskeytown, Elvis Costello, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Uncle Tupelo, and the Allman Brothers. A band could do worse than draw inspiration from this gallery. The harmony vocals on this record are first class, and the bass guitar work is impressive. Also, the band's lap steel player lays down some real fine work on many of the songs.

This is a excellent recording full of good music made by serious musicians. It is one of those recordings that you will like initially, but it will grow on you with repeated listenings.
