Please look for it by the title 'The Story of Ferdinand'. This is the second time I have entered a review in this space as a reviewer following me claimed that this is not true. Please check for yourself and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful childrens book., November 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ferdinand the Bull (Misc. Supplies)
I had Ferdinand the Bull read to me when I was in grade 1. Since then, I have not forgotten the story and am desperately hunting for a copy of my own so that I can read the story to my own children. The storyline is so simple and sweet and really unforgettable. It's a shame that the book is out of print because I'm sure that it will be popular with today's children as it was for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars CULTURALLY ENRICHING! OLE! I LOVE IT!, August 15, 2000
This review is from: Ferdinand the Bull (Misc. Supplies)
This was my favorite book when I was five. I loved the gentle bull Ferdinand and his refusal to be part of a bull fight. The highly detailed, black and white drawings are very appealing. Ferdinand is a gentle contrast to the harsh sport of bull fighting. I loved the descriptions of the men involved in the bullfight, e.g., the matador, los picadores and los bandilleros and the 5 men in sombreros who take Ferdinand to the arena. I still remember laughing when the matador threw down his sword and cried in frustration because Ferdinand refused to fight.

I loved this book because in addition to being culturally enriching, the bullfighting sequence was a good way of describing aggression. The character of Ferdinand provided a nice contrast to the aggressive theme and remained true to himself. It is a wonderful book that I still love. (My favorite uncle liked bullfights).

Ole, Ferdinand!

Every time I read this book as I child I laughed. I want so bad to be able to read it to my children. The thought of the bull sitting under the tree smelling flowers is captivating. I hope they start printing it again.

When looking for a copy I discovered that the name is not "Ferdinand the Bull" after all. It is actually called "The Story of Ferdinand" and is still widely available (not out of print as the review writers below think)! Enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ferdinand the Bull, March 12, 2000

As a little girl I had a copy of Ferdinand that also had a 45 record that read the story to you, I loved it. My favorite part is the moral of the story, you can't judge a book by its cover. Ferdinand wasn't the biggest, strongest bull in the field he just got stung by a bee. This is one book that should definatly be put back into circulation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't forget the illustrations, December 9, 1999

All the comments surround the story, but the illustrations, especially of the picadores and the steets of madrid, were exceptional.

And who can forget the image of Ferdinand, a massive and strong bull, sitting upright like a human, smelling the flowers, or how he looked when stung by the bee?

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful children's classic!!, October 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ferdinand the Bull (Misc. Supplies)
One appeal of the book Ferdinand the Bull is that it supports a child being himself or herself and not giving in to the pressure to be what he or she isn't. I particularly liked the fact that the mother is so accepting of Ferdinand's choice to smell the flowers instead of fighting.

Ferdinand the Bull not only has an inspirational message for me, but means a great deal as Ferdinand is my maiden name. My brother and I, as we grew up in Pa., had this read to us and then read it ourselves and loved hearing it over and over. I shared it with my children and I hope that they will reprint it so that our grandchildren may enjoy it, as well. Jane Ferdinand Royer, Southlake, TX.
