More About the Author

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father's paintings of historic English battles - which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father's office. Adam's father said they were a Blade family heirloom. As a boy, Adam would spend days imagining who could have first owned the sword and shield. Eventually, he created a character - Tom, the bravest boy warrior of them all. The idea for Beast Quest was born. hen Adam grew up and decided that he wanted to be a writer, he was stuck for ideas - until he remembered the old sword and shield, and the imaginary boy he had created when he was young. Adam decided to bring Tom fully to life so that readers could go on the kind of adventures that he always wanted to when he was that age... And still does, even though he's grown up! When he's not writing Beast Quest books, Adam enjoys visiting museums and ancient battle sites. His main hobbies are fencing and football. He also spends a lot of time at home running around after his two exotic pets - a tarantula named Ziggy, and a capuchin monkey named Omar. These little rascals were the inspiration for two of the Beasts that Tom faces on his Quest - Arachnid and Claw. adly, Adam does not have his own Fire-Dragon or Horse-Man. But he really wishes he did!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd grader loved it, April 2, 2007

I bought this at the book fair, trying to find an exciting adventure series for my son. This is the first book he truly could not put down. I read the first chapter to him and then he continued to read, after dinner, in the tub, before bed, until he finally finished it that same evening. It was great to see him enjoy reading so much. We are buying the next one in the series now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "level 3" chapter book, February 16, 2007
I have to admit I was very nervous when my son (2nd grade, RL 3) picked out this book. I wanted to read it with him to make sure it was appropriate. It is about a 12 year old boy who is saving the kingdom from beasts that are destroying the land. The beasts are usually the protectors of the ancient kingdom but a sorcerer has put enchanted collars around their necks so they have started to do his bidding. The thing I really appreciate about this series is that the hero never has to kill the beast - only unlock their collars and then the beasts become friendly again. A great read for any child who loves adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hey, mature readers, don't look twice at this book, but 2nd and 3rd graders will love it!, April 6, 2007

Beast Quest: Ferno the Fire Dragon, is a story about a kingdom plauged by a mysterious power that is drying up rivers, destroying villages and crops, and causing mast turmoil. A young boy namd Tom vows several times to defeat this power, and travels to the king's place. What goes on from there is great adventure, quick-paced action, and cool magic.

For 2-3rd graders.

The print is very large, and the story is very simple. But if I was in the lower grades, I would have thought it the next big series. But Adam Blade does a very good job in writing this series.

Definently a series your elementary grade child has been looking for to make reading more fun.
