Must read! How fragile we are....,
By
This review is from: The Ferocious Summer: Adelie Penguins and the Warming of Antarctica (Hardcover)
On the cover of this book is this quote, "Like canaries in a coal mine, penguins present an undeniable and urgent warning of the devastating effect of climate change on the planet. This timely book must be read." David Suzuki
I could not have said it better myself. If you care about your childrens future and the "home" we leave for them read this book. It is an epic true story of the struggle for survival that the Adelie penguins have endured as their habitat has changed causing low or no birth rate (remember March of the Penguins?) This is a gripping, scientific account of a summer spent by Meredith Hooper in Antarctica as she witnessed and kept daily diaries, working with scientists at the Palmer Station to document what is happening to these beautiful, friendly birds and what it can mean for humankind as Antarctica is melting at six times the rate of the rest of the planet.
