Flawed but Fantastic ...

Was eagerly anticipating this game as it promised to deliver over 50 Ferraris to drive on fantastic race tracks around the world.

Positives:
+ Realistic Handling. I own a Ferrari 348 myself and felt the handling was very similar.

Flawed but Fantastic ...

Was eagerly anticipating this game as it promised to deliver over 50 Ferraris to drive on fantastic race tracks around the world.

Positives:
+ Realistic Handling. I own a Ferrari 348 myself and felt the handling was very similar.
+ Nicely detailed tracks
+ Decent (but not world class graphics)
+ Challenging to drive - there is a learning curve for all newbies but the rewards are worth it. Turn off all the assists and the car becomes easier to drive.

Negatives:
- Didn't provide the 50 cars that were promised - future download content were scratched
- System 3 sucks
- Lots of niggling bugs - some of which were addressed in a support pack. But there are a lot of other faults/improvements that are still needed
- AI drives unnecessarily aggressively - if they drove like that in real life, they would be blackflagged immediately and their racing license revoked. Hint: Overtake them on the outside.
- Car sounds are not that great
- Cannot save games / poor replays
- Small customer base - makes it a moot point to get future updates / upgrades.

Despite the many negatives, it is a must-have game if you like realistic driving simulations. Don't buy it if you want an arcade game - you will get bored in two days.

2.0 out of 5 stars I had to pay to beta test this game, March 19, 2009

Ferrari Challenge promised a lot but delivered very, very little and early owners of this game amounted to nothing more than beta testers who had to pay for the privilege.

I'll start with the good, the driving physics are rather accurate and the track selection is lengthy and diverse, even if some of the circuits are a bit inaccurate. The inclusion such world class circuits like VIR and Spa was especially welcome.

Despite gritty and low rez graphics, the game has a low and inconsistent frame rate and is rife with popup. It completely fails in conferring a sense of speed, an attribute any racing game should posses.

Opponent AI is equally lackluster, consisting of nothing else but remorseless blocking that allows cars ahead to escape. The behavior exhibited by the AI would be promptly black flagged in any amateur or professional race series on earth.

If that were not enough, the game as delivered, featured completely broken online racing that was fixed for MONTHS. In addition, PROMISED DLC has been scuttled because of "licensing issues", but curiously these issues don't prevent the DLC from being rolled into a new game from System 3, called "Supercar Challenge".

Don't buy this game. Don't reward these developers' lies and deceit with you hard earned gaming dollar. Gran Turismo 5 prologue, while not without issues, offers a MUCH better racing experience and MUCH better value for your dollar.

Don't waste your time and money. It's not a good game. You want a good driving game buy the gran turismo, dirt 1 or formula 1 championship edition. Ferrari challenge it's just a good name but not a good game

I bought this game on amazon for 15 dollar. It's relatively easy to learn to drive in this game. However, you are not able save replay, or save a event in the middle of it. Overall, it's worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sound issues -, January 18, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ferrari Challenge (Video Game)
I hate to give such a low rating, because the game itself isn't particularly horrible (although it is painfully dated and can't be remotely compared to state of the art games like GT5,) but either I have a defective product or it has an unbelievably bad drawback - the engine sound. There are 5 step-downs of the view of the track you can use - from overhead shots of the car to nose camera view - which I prefer. As you step down, the engine sound gets fainter - and using the nose view it is completely muted. If you can't hear the engine, you don't know when to shift other than the tach, and isn't the sound of the Ferrari engine the whole point? I've tried everything within the game to adjust it, I tried to change the settings of the PS3 in case there was a 5.1 surround issue and I scoured the web for chat sites and reviews - with no luck. Activision no longer answers customer support e-mail & refers you to a forum with hundreds of comments on all their games. Life's too short to have to work this hard to get a game to work. Wish I'd rented first - and I welcome comments from anyone who knows how to address this problem.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good overall racing sim...., January 22, 2010

I actually owned the wii version of this. The Wii version I would have rated much higher simply because the Wii lacks in sim racing games and the Wii is not as powerful a system as the PS3. Here on the PS3, you basically get a simple well done racing sim. It is a bit tough in gameplay, such as turns. Very unforgiving. But you get that sense of achievement when you finally take first place. This game looks good but most PS3 racing games look better. Its not bad, but its not jaw dropping either. The Wii version impressed me considering the Wii's limitations. The PS3 version, though slightly juiced up with better graphics is mostly the same. The biggest reason to consider this game is probably the price, its a budget game now and thats the only reason you would look at a game like this over Gran Turismo. A good solid sim game, but thats it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Great game. It's a little hard at first to get use to driving, but once you do, your hooked on it. And the online play makes it that much better.

The graphics in this game are amazing in HD. It's a simulation racing game, but you can instantly jump in and play. Of course you will need to learn how to drive properly, and each car handles differently. When you start off, the only car you are allowed to race with is the F430.

You can play up to 16 people online, and on 16 different tracks according to IGN. I haven't unlocked them all yet. It features all the cars from the Ferrari challenge series, and a mixture of others. It's a great racing game, but isn't too deep. All in all, great for racing fans. I love it because I love Ferrari. If nothing else, it's great on the eyes.

This is a nice game... not too much difficult... excellent graphics, music... but it has a big problem when it comes to the replays... it gets stucked when you press the replay button... it just plays the replay in one mode and you can't do nothing just to restart the console, so there's no chance for you to rotate or change the replay mode...

Anyway in overall its a nice Ferrari game... too many Ferraris drives you crazy... and you can customize your cars... good for System 3!
