Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-- Many of Enzo Ferrari's and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche's most significant production and racing cars are described in detail here, and a selection of them adorns the pages in gleaming full-color photographs. Through the discussions as to how and why these designers introduced major innovations to engine structure and body style, readers also learn the origins of some of these mysterious model designations such as "F40" (for the Ferrari company's 40th anniversary) and the "Dino" (named for Ferrari's son, killed during a road test). The less savory aspects of their lives and characters (such as Ferrari's fiery temper and Porsche's association with Adolf Hitler) receive brief mention. The glossary/index at the end of each volume contains fewer than 20 terms, some of which are clearly defined in context and others whose definitions are nearly useless, e.g., the phrase, "A lightweight metal" to describe "aluminum". --Ann G.
