5.0 out of 5 stars How important are ferrite cores?
Ferrite cores help reduce static noise found in video images and audio offering clean video and audio quality. They also help reduce interference to data and power cables.

This is highly recommended when clumping video, audio, data and power cables together.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't get your hopes up
Over the years I've found that these ferrite things you are supposed to wrap around power and/or audio cords sometimes work and sometimes don't. It's chancy. They usually do a good job in suppressing stray radio signals or noise generated by - for example - the cake batter mixer or the carpet sweeper. But 60 Hz hum is much more problematic. I believe it sometimes...

Even though they clamp over, if using on thin cables you may need to use twist ties (not included but you may find them in a bag of plastic kitchen bags) to keep them fitted and from sliding on the cables.

Well made item that is useful to keep on hand for troubleshooting noise problems, and as a solution. At this price, keep two on hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stopped my speakers from picking up the radio!!, April 10, 2010

I have non-shielded studio speakers, and the sound quality is accurate and great, but they pick up the radio at a very high volume when turned on. I bought 4 of these ferrite cores and put my them on the speaker cables near the speakers and near the amp, and now there are no more radio sounds! Highly recommended at an excellent price.

They usually do a good job in suppressing stray radio signals or noise generated by - for example - the cake batter mixer or the carpet sweeper. But 60 Hz hum is much more problematic. I believe it sometimes enters the circuit inside the component where these devices cannot be placed. Old house wiring and proximity to certain kinds of street lights are also tough to overcome in terms of hum. For the price, I'm not sorry I tried these things.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well as a Common Mode Choke, January 2, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ferrite Core 1/2 Cord Noise Suppressor (Electronics)
I'm using 2 of these units as "common mode chokes" on the coax feelines from my HF ham radio rig to the antenna. I'm using a transmitter that outputs approx. 100 watts from 160M (1.8 mHz) to 10M (30 mHz). Before installing the ferrites I had some issues with RF on the outside of the coax getting into the control line cables and other wiring in the ham shack. Installation of these ferrites eliminated the problem.

The size of the inside bore of these units is perfect for RG-8 & LMR-400 50 ohm coax cable, and the small plastic barbs on the cover grab onto the outer cover of the coax just enough to hold it in place without penetrating the cover. BTW, one of them is outside where the coax enters the shack and no problems so far (though I did wrap that one with duct tape to keep the rain & snow out).

Overall, good product, a fair price & they work - what more can one aks for?
