Organic. A very unique variety with very sweet bright-red flesh. Legendary variety rediscovered in rural Missouri. Large oval fruits up to 40 pounds. The dark-green skin is speckled with bright-yellow splashes ranging from star to moon size. Leaves are also speckled. This packet will plant approximately 5 hills. Choose a site with good drainage, good air circulation and full sun. Ready to harvest when skin on underside turns yellow and when a thump with knuckles produces a hollow sound. Start seed indoors 4 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Take care not to disturb roots when transplanting. Or, sow 6 seeds over a hill 9 to 12 inches tall and 2 feet across. When plants are 3 inches tall, thin by cutting to 3 plants per hill. Use a balanced fertilizer to increase yield.

One star is for the pocket of seeds I received and in no way for the company. I planted these seeds over 10 days ago and not one has germinated yet. At the same time I also planted Organic Allsweet watermelon (also from Ferry-Morse, ordered together actually) and ALL seed germinated. So, I doubt it has anything to do with the way I planted them. I have never had 100% failure rate from Ferry-Morse before so, it is a shocker.

I read online and found out that some sources state the germination takes 15 to 29 days for this variety but on the pocket it says 6-8 days. 2 days overdue. My organic allsweet variety already have true leaves. Puzzling.
