2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't really like this book
I got this book (from the library) thinking that it would compliment The Fertility Cure by Randine Lewis and was very disappointed by the new agey yet preachy tone.

It does have some good information and lists the common sense things that women (and men) suffering from infertility should do:

1) Eat better
2) Relax (no, not relax and you'll...

I have two beautiful children thanks to the fantastic treatment I received at Dr. Wu's Healing Center. This book will explain how medical treatment at her clinic transformed me from an "infertile woman" as the Western doctors described me, into busy mother of two little boys. The methods Dr. Wu uses often seemed strange to me. I still don't understand how it all works, but I don't know exactly how my fax machine works either. I simply know that it does. I am currently involved with my third round - hoping for baby #3. My story is in her book. My book name is Lila and my children are called John and Tanner. If you are struggling with infertility, read this book! Gotta go..crying baby! :-)

This is an amazing book. Well written and a pleasure to read. Covers all of the things that I did to give birth to a gorgeous, perfect child 1 year after being told by Western fertility experts that this could never happen. I LOVE this book. Buy it, go for it ( find an acupuncturist, change your diet, follow the mind-body exercises ) and make sure to pass on the info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book with unique information, December 4, 2006

I've purchased and read a large number of infertilty books (over 25): some good, some useless, and some which offer unique enough information to become a part of my small collection. The rest I give away. This one is a real keeper. Good Chinese medicine diet tips (different from western diet tips) plus exercises, abdominal massage tips, success stories, acupuncture benefits, etc. Highy recommended!

This book is a must-read for anyone planning to become pregnant, whether you've had fertility complications or not. In helping readers understand how to better prepare ourselves (in body, mind, and spirit) to "attract new life," Dr. Wu succeeds in putting us on the path to good physical health in general. Almost everything you learn in this book - for men and women alike - is applicable to life after babies as well! You'll discover the benefits of eating a diet (recipes included) influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine. You'll get meaningful tips on how to harmonize your environment by clearing clutter. You'll learn exercises and acupressure techniques - all of these specifically to encourage vitality and fertility.

Reading this book was pure pleasure. While her self-references are always strikingly humble, it's clear from the authoritative tone and ample real-life case examples that this author is an expert in her field.

5.0 out of 5 stars TCM got me pregnant !!, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Fertility Wisdom: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Help Overcome Infertility (Paperback)
After struggling with secondary infertility for 1 year, I had given up on conventional medicine and turned to TCM. I read this book (as well as some others) and immediately made an appointment with a local accupuncturist. After 3 months of accupuncture, modifying my diet and taking chinese herbs, I was pregnant. Baby #2 was born healthy just 6 weeks ago and he will always by my "accu baby". Buy the book - trust your body and give Traditional Chinese Medicine a chance to work for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying, March 15, 2007

This book really got to the heart of disease - diet, lifestyle, exercise and stress management. These aspects of life must be paid attention to if one expects to have a child. If not managed now, how will our current habits affect our child to be? The author provides clear instruction, easy recipes and detailed instructions for the exercises. I just have to wonder how successful following the diet and lifestyle changes can be without acupuncture and herbs, or is that a critical component to success?

5.0 out of 5 stars How Fertility Wisdom Has Helped Me, July 27, 2009
By
M.A. (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fertility Wisdom: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Help Overcome Infertility (Paperback)
After having difficulty conceiving in my early thirties, my husband and I sought out fertility drugs accompanied with artificial insemination on two occasions originally. One of which was successful, only to end in miscarriage. I switched providers including doctors and attempted a third session when the doctor asked to run my blood work when the Clomid didn't seem to be working. My blood work came back with what the doctor said was an elevated FSH. (I believe it was at about 17.) The doctor was baffled because despite the elevated FSH another test taken during the same draw revealed I had indeed ovulated. After running blood tests a second time, my FSH was even higher. The first thing the doctor said after reviewing the results is "you have little to no chance of getting pregnant with that FSH level and you will need to seek out donor eggs of a young 25 year old if you really want to get pregnant." I was officially diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure and devastated to say the least. Soon after, I began experiencing strong hot flashes. I saw yet another Western doctor and the hormonal imbalance was deemed as Premenopause. He even gave me estrogen patches which made them lessen in duration, frequency and strength but all that he could do was offer to supply more drugs at varying strengths to try and get it under control. Even then I couldn't yet throw in the towel and saw an endocrine specialist who had blood work done and my FSH had elevated to 100+ by this time. Although, overall a terrible story, I'm grateful for the painful journey because it actually brought me into the vast entity of Eastern medicine and ultimately to the graces of Dr. Wu's practice. It was several recommendations from friends that are having success with Eastern treatments and referred me to Fertility Wisdom.

After reading the book, I went straight to our local natural/organic store, and with book in hand, bought all warming foods, eliminated wheat etc... as I new I had a cool disposition (from a prior acupuncture treatment here in L.A.). I then took my estrogen patch off, and started eating as recommended by Dr. Wu and within about two weeks my hot flashes had completely disappeared! Among that major accomplishment, I also had regular periods, strengthened nails, new hair growth and only minor (if at all) cold symptoms when the cold/flu season arrived.

My most memorable part of this adventure is the month I "cheated". I started eating the bread that would come to the table when dining out, candy at Easter, and pizza at special occasions. It took approximately 2 weeks for my body to completely relapse back into hot flashes! This was the jarring realization that I can't stray far from the diet recommended in the book. As soon as I switched back to the diet, the hot flashes diminished again. Fertility wisdom is truly amazing to say the least...

Now on to my next milestone...getting pregnant! Fertility Wisdom's diet helped me combated the hot flashes, now I have my eye on the prize. I've flown out to visit Dr. Wu and her healing practice in person. I'm 100% committed to her advice and recommendations and hoping this is a "to be continued" miracle story so stay tuned...

4.0 out of 5 stars A total lifestyle change, July 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I give this book 4 stars because it is a total life style change. I started this book but have to say that I did not finish it; I got pregnant while reading the book (yay!), but cannot attribute that to the book. The book is very interesting in its approach and the testimonials are inspirational to anyone that has struggled with infertility for any period of time. This approach, however, is a complete lifestyle change (and she acknowledges this in the book). Not only is it a lifestyle change but it is a polar opposite approach from anything you hear from western medicine. If you are struggling and frustrated, I highly recommend the book; however, it is not an "easy" way to get pregnant and I found it difficult to comprehend how I would implement all of her ideas (as she suggests you cannot do the program half-way because half-pregnant is also not possible). If you are motivated and willing to make some real changes, this is the book for you (and probably a 5 star)!

5.0 out of 5 stars It works!, April 1, 2007

This review is from: Fertility Wisdom: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Help Overcome Infertility (Paperback)
I read this book, did the diet for 3 mos (and it worked, my cycles improved dramatically) and I also used the clearblue easy fertility monitor. I got pregnant the third month and continued the diet and recommendations for my 1st trimester. I am now writing this review while my 18 month old son runs around the living room. We tried for 2 years to have a baby before this book and I have no doubt in my mind that following it's recommendations worked. Try it before you try fertility treatments. I was 35, by the way, when I had my son.

I liked how specific this one was and how it covered a lot of sub-topics on the subject. Good food suggestions and no bones about it. I appreciated that.
