this solo piano album by the late professor longhair is an undeservedly unknown gem. originally recorded in 1979 for a canadian radio station, it took almost twenty years to get it released, but it was still worth the wait. the record contains solo piano pieces and spoken interviews (no vocals), and it gives great insight into the music and mind of one of america's true originals. for those already familiar with fess' band recordings, this album is a revelation; the piano comes out in all its glory here, and the warm, gentle storytelling is nothing short of compelling.
