Product Description

The TS REQ is not your standard circular saw. With its accuracy and versatility, a better comparison would be to the most advanced table saws, miter saws or panel saws available. Add in its incredible portability and unbelievable ease of use, and you have a precision-cutting solution like no other, at home in the highest-end cabinet shop as well as an onsite remodel. With the addition of micro-adjustable depth controls and a flat housing for flush-cutting against walls or adjacent surfaces, the TS 55 REQ is our most advanced plunge cut saw ever, which is saying a lot.

I have had this saw since the day it was available (I think it came out 5/1/13). I use it along with a Festool CT-26 vac. It works great ripping and crosscutting sheet goods. But anything over 5/8", on the highest speed setting, and I feel it slows down too much. Now 3/4" is fine for the most part but if your used to cutting sheet goods with your average curricular saw you will notice that even cutting 3/4" ply with the TS-55 seems slow. Now take an exterior fir door and crosscut that and you'll be asking yourself how much you paid for this thing?? Don't get me wrong it will cut 3/4" material fine and maybe I'm trying to be too fast/productive in my work, but I would much prefer a hot knife through butter feel in 3/4" material like I do with a sharp blade and an average 15 Amp circular saw.
So in review the TS-55 is a great little saw with many great features, but with a 10 Amp motor I find it underpowered. I just want to give a heads up to those thinking of purchasing this saw. Worst case scenario you buy it and agree with me, Festool has a great 30 day return policy.
The TS-75 would be more my preference as far as power, but it's too big and bulky. So ya, I do like this saw but for the $$ I'm left wanting for more.

I'm not a professional woodworker of any sort and never will be, so the thought of paying this much for a circular saw was always repellant to me. That means I've spent years doing everything imaginable to replicate the Festool's functionality on the cheap, and when you add up the cost of all the different flimsy little guides I've bought and boards I've wasted, there just wasn't any point to any of it. Factor in all the countless hours I've spent trying to fix my invariably janky cuts with routers, sanders, planers and scrapers, and it becomes downright embarrassing.

I was looking to step up to a table saw, but I have absolutely no place to store one, so I was going to be limited to one of the semi-portable "contractor" models. Looking at various reviews of every such tool available, it was clear that no matter what I bought I'd have to replace the miter gauge, spend hours adjusting things that will probably fall out of adjustment every few cuts, and compensate for slop in the fence. Once I got through all of that, I'd still be struggling to feed huge sheets of plywood into a spinning blade without letting it bend in my tiny one car garage. Again, that'd be more money than the Festool just to get sub-par results from a tool whose motor was almost guaranteed to burn out in a year or two. You can argue that the Festool doesn't have enough power to churn through 4" maple, but neither do very many table saws.

So I did it--I bought the Festool. What was I fighting? I don't know. In a world full of hype, this gizmo lives up to all of it. Yeah, there's tons of plastic everywhere, but nothing wobbles or creaks. Nothing.

I bought my festool saw at Woodcraft but still, this is some of the best money I have ever spent.

1. Very clean cuts. With the splinter guard on the saw and the splinter guard from the track itself, you get very nice cuts.

2. Wonderful dust extraction. Especially with the Festool Variable speed vacuum.

3. Easy depth adjustment.

4. Can replace a table saw and a cabinet saw. You can cut down plywood into manageable sizes without having to muscle them through a table saw.

5. Safer than a regular circular saw. Because you plunge down instead of retracting a guard I think it is much safer.

6. You know exactly where you will be cutting by lining up the splinter guard from the track were you want to cut.

Many of the folks will complain about the price of Festool products, but you get what you pay for. Want proof? Go on craigslist and look for Festool stuff for sale. You will not see much of it for sale. Cause you'll never want to sell it.

Festoon makes wonderful tools, albeit expensive. I own the Festool shop vac, the csx mini drill, the jig saw and now this tool. I was having problems cutting plywood sheets down to size on the table saw. Not only were my cuts coming out wavy, but the chip out of the plywood veneer was unsightly. This saw performed exactly as required. Perfectly straight cuts with no chip out (when used on the track, obviously). When I say no chip out, I don't mean minor but nothing to complain about, I mean absolute perfect edges on both sides of the sheet.

I am sort of disappointed that the saw/track did not come with any clamps. You have to purchase those separately. All-in-all, a great product. Anytime I can afford it, I will buy Festool products before anything else.

I bought this after a year or 2 of debate. I already have found plenty of uses for it other than what I "thought" I would use it for. As far as power, I do not not notice it being weak. As far as the cut quality, I do not think it can be beat. No need for a joiner after you cut with this machine. I know that it is expensive, I fought with the purchase for a while. I finally bit the bullet and really could not be happier.
