Wonderful,

I have two children with FAS. This book has helped in so many ways. When my children first came to my home, I lived in a rural area that did not know anything about FAS, from the pediatricians, the schools, the psychologist, etc. I bought one for all of them. I have recently moved to another state, and just last week I had a psychologist ask if I had a spare copy for her. Excellent for the professionals and for the parents!

A must read for professionals and parents,
By Jan Buckman (Emporia, Kansas United States) - See all my reviews

This is an excellent book for social workers, rehabilitation counselor's, drug and alcohol counselor's, mental health therapists, teacher's, doctor's, and parent's of FAS/FAE children. The research-based studies showing behavior and life=skills improvement after trying the new strategies of treatment is an eye-opener. Basically, it encourages a new way of thinking in treatment for this population.

Diane Malbin's book on strategies is a misnomer; it is great for parents and anyone else who wants to understand the mechanisms behind FAS and educational, environment strategies for helping these children. Easy to read and very inexpensive, you should get several to hand out.

Ms. Malbin provides insight and strategies that are effective for both professionals and families living with and loving children exposed prenatally. A FASD classic.

This is a small booklet which contains some pretty good information. It is not a complete book, which is what I expected based on the listing and reviews.

This was a great book (more like a brochure) for me, as I am a professional and don't have a great deal of time. I was able to sit down and read it in one evening which was ideal. I am passing along the information to everyone I can think of who works with children, especially FAE/FAS. I think this brochure reminds all of us (adults) that the most important thing when working with FAE/FAS children is REMAINING FLEXIBLE. It is easy to get stuck in routines and often, the frustrations are simply due to OUR inflexibility and refusal to think outside the box. I applaud the author and plan to share her story and information with all people (profesionals, parents, educators, and clients) that I can!

This was full of helpful ideas. It is not what I would call a book, but a pamplet maybe. Need to buy more than one, so can give to teachers and others. I purchased one for our local Library.

This short and very practical pamphlet is the best quick read on dealing with kids who have been affected by fetal alcohol. Malbin writes clearly, with poetry but no syrup, and she reframes the very difficult behavior that often manifests in kids with FAS/E so that those who love them and/or care for them can develop attitudes that really help the kids, can cope with the disability, and can see beyond it. The author went through the fires of hell to be able to write this book, and every word is a treasure.
