Book Description

0443103321 978-0443103322 June 22, 2007 1 Har/DVD
The fetal heart is considered to be the most important and difficult part of fetal examination. The purpose of this book and accompanying DVD is to enable the reader firstly to find out whether the heart is normal or not, and secondly to diagnose the type of cardiac abnormality if present. To provide the skills and methodology to do this, the book covers basic anatomy and embryology, and explains what to look for, why and how. It also describes associated pathology (e.g. chromosomal abnormalities, syndromes) which the sonographer needs to know after a cardiac abnormality has been found.

Accompanying DVD with over 60 minutes of video clips and 4D ultasound scans.

Highly illustrated with nearly 400 ultrasound scans, photographs of anatomical sections and explanatory line diagrams in colour and black and white.

Step-by-step guide for those new to fetal echocardiography and a reference source for the more experienced sonographer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not an USG book but a pathology book (name is tricky), May 25, 2008
This review is from: Fetal Heart Ultrasound: How, Why and When, 1e (Hardcover)
If you are a pathologist and interested in fetal heart, this book is for you but if you are an OB /GYN. it is not the book you are looking for. The DVD included in the book almost contain more pathological sections than echo

5.0 out of 5 stars novel approach to fetal echo, December 17, 2010

This review is from: Fetal Heart Ultrasound: How, Why and When, 1e (Hardcover)
the authors have a novel approach. the dvd with the book starts with a heart autopsy which is live anatomy. it is very useful as it shows what to expect on ultrasound without having to imagine any structure or conjure a picture from verbose description. a picture is worth a thousand words, but a video is worth.....can't imagine. this is followed by methodology, again using novel approach of a text book showing parts as inlet and parts as outlet. there is a chapter on settings for ultrasound acquisition of better images using various techniques like zoom and persistence. finally the last part of dvd deals on pathology which is abnormal anatomy. the dvd is the indispensible part of the book. i think the book and dvd succeeds in clarifying fetal echocardiography without being voluminous.the authors need to be congratulated for their efforts. in all a very good book to supplement the quest for better understanding of fetal echocardiography.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear and logical, December 11, 2008
This review is from: Fetal Heart Ultrasound: How, Why and When, 1e (Hardcover)
No book is perfect, but this is the clearest and most logical approach to fetal echo that I know. It is not an atlas but a method of exam, with many examples both of ultrasound and gross pathology. For the price, you can't beat it. I use it for my MFM fellows.
