Fetching romp with werewolves and great sexual tension,
By
This review is from: Go Fetch (Magnus Pack) (Paperback)
I don't know how Shelly Laurenston does it. I could summarize her stories in half a paragraph, there seems so little plot, and yet, the pages rapidly flit by.
I like her women; they are so crazy that even the craziest of the wolves back away slowly - that Miki is a human seems scarcely to matter; she's more wolf than the best of them. And she sees Conall for what he is, a Viking pretending to be a teddy bear. They have such great sexual tension and she's so mean to him. Go Fetch is funny, and energetic, and you can see what each of them brings to the party, and the odd relationship just works. I'm always happy to spend time with the Magnus wolves but this was an especial favorite. An erotically charged romp. Highly recommended

Miki Kendrick + Conall Viga-Feilan = Fun, Sexy Laughter,
By

This review is from: Go Fetch (Magnus Pack) (Paperback)
Conall Viga-Feilan is a hunky viking shapeshifter and is absolutely smitten with Miki Kendrick, a brainy and geeky nerd femme fatale who is completely unimpressed with Conall's looks or his ability to shift into a big wolf. He tries everything to win her affections and she completely blows him off. His packmates think he's nuts for wanting a woman who obviously has no respect for him or them. Of course, the attraction between the two is undeniable, but Miki's not about to drop her underpants just because Conall thinks it's love. And poor Conall is indeed head over heels with a woman who's not only a genius, but is also skilled in the use of weapons and doesn't have an issue with hacking into someone's bank account and giving them a few nightmares or taking him to an all-night RPG (role playing game) session. Meanwhile, a pack of vicious hyena-shifters are out in force to decimate the members of the Magnus Pack and their mates, and Miki's stressing over her graduate thesis.
One of the many things I've enjoyed about Laurenston's heroines is they aren't all aflutter as soon as the hero walks into the scene. They don't stop being real and having an edge. Laurenston's heroines tend to be brash, foul-mouthed, just a few cards short of crazy and pricklier than a seguero cactus and that's why they make the perfect mates for the otherworldly shapeshifters. (I often wonder if authors realize that a wimpy heroine is just not going to make it when their new realities are comprised of being surrounded by things with claws, fangs and/or wings that just might want to kill them in horrible ways). Miki knows that Conall's far more powerful than she is, but she's just not fazed by it, to the point where she's often telling Conall to "go fetch" and where she 'mistakes' a golden retriever for Conall (something that drives him crazy since he disdains dogs like any good wolf would do). She's the type to go down swinging anyway. Miki is her own woman and she's incredibly flawed and granted, there were times in the book where I told her (loudly and on public transportation), to stop being so mean and open up a little. However it's those very flaws that make her so very memorable. In fact, while I certainly wouldn't kick a nice piece of man-flesh like Conall out of my bed for eating crackers, it's Miki who feels like reading about a best friend. Conall's no wimp--he's got the alpha thing in spades, but in order to win Miki he's willing to soften up a bit and his struggles with being "a teddy bear" rather than the "me Tarzan" are fun to read. He's out of his depth and he knows it and yet he loves and is willing to protect Miki, even from herself. The big clencher for me is that it's an interracial romance, and the paranormal genre has few of those, so when they do come along I snatch them up. What makes this aspect great is that Laurenston is one of the few authors in contemporary romance who populates her universe with people from different ethnicities. She seems to understand that when setting a novel in cities with diverse populations, it only makes sense for the characters (both primary and secondary) to reflect that diversity. The heroine and hero are trying not to get killed or kill each other. They're just two stubborn people in love. I'm sure that even after Magnus Pack, I'll be seeing more of Miki and Conall and I'm sure that married life for these two must be a total kick!

This is a great book. She has great story that makes you laugh thru the whole book. She makes you see each person in the book and they do feel like a person. The story is fun, the sex is hot, the book is fast to read. I was laughing at loud in lots of the story. You can't wait to see what happen to Miki and if she really finds true love with her wolf..

Another one for the keeper shelves. Shelly Laurenston consistently does HOT, funny stories about shifters. She delivers great characters, witty dialogue and fast paced plots on a consistent basis. Go Fetch is part of the Magnus series about a pack of motorcycle riding wolves.

Another great installment from Laurenston, this book was full of humor, romance, action and drama. The lead male character was just yummy. The female I had a harder time connecting too, but I was still interested to read the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
I've read Laurenston's Pride Stories and Dragonkin series (written under GA Aiken) and they are even better than this Magnus Pack series. Be sure to check them out if you haven't already. Magnus Pack is still worth reading--all her books are. For a long time Lynsay Sands was my favorite funny paranormal romance author, and Laurenston/Aiken has taken over that spot. I liked her other novels, but I think there was more plot to them. I finished this one unsatified. Miki is an over-the-top heroine, which I don't have a problem with, but I didn't think it was believable to have so many other shapeshifters afraid of her. I also didn't think she had a good reason to hold herself from the hero. He obviously wanted her and she obviously wanted him, so what was the big deal? It was like Laurenston was trying to grasp at a conflict that didn't exist in the story.
This one could have been better.

This is a book I had been waiting for. This wonderful story continues with 2 characters that were introduced in a previous book. Even though the main characters met and first started the mating dance in a previous story, the book was written well enough that if you hadn't read the Magnus Pack pre-story you will still be able to pick this up and go from page one without missing a beat. Lora Leigh has ability to bring MANY of her former stars together for cameos so she can still give you a little taste of the prior characters that you had come to love in their own previous stories. This book not only reference the pack leader which was in the previous book, but also another couple that is now 20 years into their marriage. It is always nice to know that previous characters that you fell in love with are still around and thriving.

This book was HOT!!! It was laugh out loud funny. What I love so much about this author is the dialogue in her books. I loved that the girls call each other "bitch" and that Zach can tell Sara "this my my f'ing kitchen as well." Or that the guys discuss whether Miki is a "good girl" or a "very good girl." This is how really good friends talk and interact.
Conall was so sexy. The sex scenes were scorching and I want a Viking for myself!

Despite my inability to pronounce the main characters last name this proved to be a wonderful snow day read. I found Miki to be indecisive and at times weak in character. With that said, the story line was weak and underdeveloped. I wish the author would have spent more time developing the conflict in the story and creating a moe richer story besides the actual romance between the two main characters. I found that Laurenston added in meaningless and awkward moments because she felt obliged to rather than the story demanding it.

Ok story,

The "hero" constantly chasing the woman, and the woman constantly putting him off was very wearing. It went on for the whole book until just the end. I agree with one reviewer that Miki's reasons for doing it were unbelievable. He wanted her, she wanted him, so why did we have to go the whole book of them fighting each other? Plot was thin also. I read the book because I had nothing else to read and it was my first Laurenston book. I may try another.
