This review is from: Fetish (Audio CD)
Poland's Artrosis is one of the best Goth Metal bands around. Heavenly female vocals with heavy guitars and dreamy/spooky synths with fresh and somewhat progressive arrangements was what they were/are about (along with great production and artwork). No male vocals. More Upbeat than most Goth Metal (at least on their first 3 albums).
Their first 3 albums were outstanding, their 5th, "Melange" was fair at best. Fetish was their 4th. It's a good album. By now, they had changed style somewhat. This is still goth metal. But gone are the chugging, faster-paced sections. The female vocalist, Medeah, has also changed, abandoning the "chanting", beautiful vocaliziations. Here she is quite gloomy and monotone, to me not nearly as endearing as before. However, the keyboardist/songwriter, Maciek, is still a genius on this recording. Very creative and unique. The sounds he gets from his synths are so cool. The songs are varied, there's just no fast ones. It should be noted that Artrosis never had a drummer. Maciek programmed it all. But, he's amazing. I have a musician friend, and when I first played him Artrosis, he said they have a good drummer! - I hated to tell him!! That was the In The Flower's Shade album. There is still a good, heavy guitar sound on this album, but again, there is much less "jamming". More somber. I still recommend this, especially if the first 3 are unavailable to you. These were Hidden Dimension, In Nomine Noctis, and In The Flower's Shade, the last being one of my all-time favorite albums. Go to soniccathedral dot com, or lasercd dot com, or even gemm dot com, to find these.
