4.0 out of 5 stars Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!, April 1, 2006
This review is from: Fever (Paperback)
In this sequel to Groove, Geneva Holliday resumes the wild and
sometime precarious life stories of Crystal, Noah, Chevy and Geneva.

It is summertime in New York City (NYC) and not only is it hot on the streets of the Big Apple but the bedrooms of our erstwhile characters are sizzling as well.

Geneva, now a mom to a toddler daughter, still struggling with weight and self esteem issues, has become attracted to Deeka, a mystery man that frequents the diner where she is employed. Unbeknownst to her, he is her son's manager and many years her junior. Struggling with sexual fantasies about him and trying to dissuade him from pursuing her ( which he is aggressively doing), Geneva is ultimately faced with a major decision; sexual frustration and/or dissolution of her relationship with her son, Eric. Noah, now across the seas of Paris in a committed relationship with Zahn, is still the ear that harbors
everyone's secrets. But to whom can he tell Zahn's most secret
fantasy? Distraught as to what to do, he uses Crystal as his sounding board and voice of reason to make a final decision.

Crystal is still recovering from the traumatic ending to her love affair with her perfect boyfriend. Celibate and focused, her old high school friend, Neville, comes into her life by way of her mother and turns her world upside down - - wining and dining her to the point where she goes against her vow of celibacy and experiences the best sexual experiences of a lifetime. Truth be told, Crystal's mother has set her up in an attempt to relieve all of Crystal's pent up frustrations. And then there is the infamous Chevy. After surviving a harrowing experience, which involved Crystal and her undercover drug addicted boyfriend, she has landed the job of her dreams. A surprise within this new world of which she is now a part of adds to the resume of her usual drama ridden world.

Ms. Holliday continues to entertain her readers with the antics of her characters while still managing to incorporate the sincerity of friendship. Fever will have you laughing out loud - - a truly entertaining read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I got the Fever...and I don't need any Tylenol!!!, May 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fever (Paperback)
Ooohhh! This book was hot!!! Such an appropriate title "Fever" Bernice aka Geneva blew it out of the water with this one! I enjoyed this book as much as I did the 1st one "Groove". Geneva, Chevy, Crystal and Noah are all back and up to the usual stuff again. Geneva now has a 3 year old daughter, has gained some weight, works as a waitress, and is really lonely for the company of a man, thanks to a celibacy vow.. but when she meets her son Eric's manager who is only 23 she may just change her mind. Crystal along with Geneva has also taken a vow of celibicacy, that is until old childhood friend Neville shows up..could he be just what the doctor ordered? Chevy is busy trying to keep up with her high maintenance life style, that should be a little easier thanks to her new job as an assistant to Anja, the famous radio personality. But "Anja" isn't all Anja seems to be. Noah is over in Europe with his lover Zahn, and they get some interesting new neighbors who want to get real up close and personal with them.

These 4 friends are back at it again, they are there for each other when it matters the most (Maybe not Chevy). I was sorry to see this book end b/c Ms. McFadden's writing is wonderful. "Fever" was sexy, funny, smart, hip and refreshing. Finally a novel about the grown and sexy! I hope "Geneva" writes more books, i know I'll be ordering my copy in advance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just As Good The Second Time Around, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Fever (Paperback)
"Fever" is the sequel to "Groove" written by Bernice L. McFadden's alter ego Geneva Holliday. I recommend reading "Groove" first. If you dont, you will still enjoy this book. This book was very entertaining, funny and just as suspenseful as the previous book.

Four Friends:
-Geneva is the overweight financially struggling mother of 2. Her low self esteem won't allow her to believe that her son's friend is truly attracted to her just the way that she is. Geneva struggles with the reality that someone, as handsome as he, finds her attractive. She also struggles with the fact that he is much younger and is her son's friend. Geneva was supposed to remain celibate but with this new handsome guy begging for attention, celibacy didn't work out as planned.
-Chevy is the superficial, materialistic, selfish friend who finally finds a job but the job isn't what she thought it was cracked up to be. What a wake-up call for her! Oooh what a surprise at the end!
-Noah is the gay friend who moves abroad to live with his lover but has a hard time trying to forgive him for his indiscretions. Remembering how Noah's lover forgave him of his indiscretions with women, makes Noah realize that maybe the relationship is worth fighting for and forgiveness is the key.
-Crystal is recovering from a horrible relationship with a drug addict. Her mother and friend, Noah, conspire to hook her up with a childhood friend. Crystal was supposed to remain celibate just like Geneva but now that this childhood friend is back in town and in her apartment, celibacy didn't work out as planned. Crystal doesn't know about the conspiracy until it's too late.

Im ready for the third book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!!, May 4, 2006
This review is from: Fever (Paperback)
This book is a fresh, funny joyride that will have you laughing and thinking through the entire book. The situations that Chevy, Noah, Geneva and Crystal get themselves into are wild. Thank you Ms. McFadden for another wonderful and entertaining book.
P.S. You don't have to read Groove, the 1st book, in order to enjoy this one, but you should.

3.0 out of 5 stars The FAB FOUR are back!!!, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Fever (Paperback)
Yes they are back...but fast forward 3 years, it's another summer in the city for the Fab Four and they are up to their same tricks. This time around Crystal is a certified celibate - who is set up by her mother and Noah to 'release some pent up frustrations'; Geneva - is now a waitress with a 3 year daughter and fighting off lustful thoughts of her son's manager; Noah has moved to London with is lover Zahn (but keeps up with the girls via phone calls) and Chevy has landed her dream job (that is more than she bargained for) as a personal assistant to one of NYC's radio personalities.

Loved the storyline...the author stayed true to the characters. I wanted to give this book 5 stars (really I did), but there were some unanswered questions from the 3 year gap in Groove that weren't address in Fever. For instance - how did Geneva go from her receptionist position to a waitress? What was the catalyst prompting Noah to move to London? Did Crystal ever get a chance to get closure from her relationship with her previous boyfriend?

I just finished reading Fever the follow up novel to Groove. Geneva, Crystal and "The Diva" Chevy and my favorite [...] Noah.

This was a good read! Fever has more drama, sex and passion.

Each character is going through it in this one!! [...]

You will laugh out loud and shake your head at the drama written in each chapter.

Geneve: Will she find love? Has she lost weight?
Crystal: After dating a addict will she finally receive toe curling sex?
Chevy: What type of drama can't Chevy get into?
Noah: Is he still on the down low?

Read Fever to find out.
