This book COMBO (Wild Rain and The Awakening) introduces a new species, explains their history, and shares details of their surroundings and culture. This is a challenging undertake by any author, thusly my earlier comments on Christine being "adventurous". Often this undertaking will leave a "practical" reader disappointed, since of course; the book's theory is exactly not that "practical", but rather "fantasy".

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading prenatural books. I just hope that she continues on writing up on this series just as much as she does with the dark series. I'm eagerly anticipating additions to the Leopard series. I'm hoping to see a story about Rachel's brother Elijah; he'll be an interesting cat to read.

The story of Rachelle and Rio in the rain forest is very captivating. Christine Feehan has delightfully decided to embark on new adventures. This time we have an opportunity to enjoy her talents as she takes on a wonderful love story set in the jungle. All the elements are there: intrigue, suspense, romance, and the ability to keep us glued to the story. You'll get hook once you open the book. Happy reading.

They save money. Good for them. It may also help those who want to read something by that author that is no longer in print. I think that is the only good reason to "re-release" a title. I love Christine Feehan's work and she is not the only author I really like that does this. It's frustrating because you think "Oh boy, a new book by so and so" then crash! Also,I really dislike when authors re-release a title with "a few added revisions". The book is ages old and after you've bought it with new cover, etc you start reading to find its "old". I've really had to start watching those first print dates. Thank you for allowing to to blow off steam with regards to this subject.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Fever (Leopard) (Mass Market Paperback)
Christine Feehan's writing is compelling. I love that she maintains several series, writing new books about the characters in each. In this particular series I love that she has imagined a whole new species and given that species aspects of humanity as well as aspects of the wild, from the rainforest environment that they inhabit. But more than any of these things, I love that Feehan's books, though definitely wonderfully erotic, do not depend entirely on that eroticism. She writes stories that offer mystery, full blown action and suspense, as well as explore the relationships between the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars lush descriptions, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Fever (Leopard) (Mass Market Paperback)
***** "The Awakening."

This is the first of Feehan's leopard stories, and I'm still impressed by her lush prose. You can just sink into the jungle in this one.

There might have been problems with the story--I don't know, because I was completely distracted by the descriptions, which is unusual for me--normally I just skim them. Feehan's are a notable exception. For that, I can forgive her any number of cliches.

****½ Wild Rain.

Still excellent, but in the longer format, there's something about the dialogue that bugs me. I tried really hard to figure out what it was. Partly, I think it's that everyone sounds alike. The non-dialogue writing just flows beautifully, but it's like someone else wrote the dialogue. Everyone speaks in simple, complete, declarative sentences with no transitions--kind of the way Stephen King writes, or those horrible abridged Disney storybooks I bought a set of for my kids when they were little and could never bring myself to read to them because the writing clunked so badly. Anyway. It's rather disorienting for me, to read every word of the descriptions and skim the dialogue, instead of the other way around. :)

Good story, though--tortured hero, strong heroine, danger, intrigue, and some characters I hope will show up in later books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two wonderfully written short stories!, June 11, 2007
This review is from: Fever (Leopard) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed these wonderful short stories by Christine Feehan, and would have even loved if the first one "The Awakening" had been longer.

The first short story "The Awakening" was about a young woman, Maggie Odessa, who always loved wild animals, especially large cats, and could not resist the urge to visit the rain forest once she was told that she had inherited a jungle home. Once in the rain forest, she finds it alluring and irresistable. Apparently someone has lured her there because they realize that she will soon experience the "Han Vol Dan"...(and you must read to find out what that is). As Maggie unlocks the mystery of who she is and what she is fast becoming, will she fall in love with the man who already knows, loves and accepts her?

The second story "Wild Rain" is about Rachel Lospostros who is on the run from a dangerous assassin. After having several attempts made on her life, she decides to escape to a jungle hideaway where she is mauled by a leopard belonging to the very reclusive Rio Santana. Rio, an outcast amongst his people, realizes that he is drawn to Rachel and doesn't understand why. As she recovers from her injuries, and attempts to hide from her past (among them a wayward brother, Elijah, who I would love to read more about), she finds herself being drawn to Rio and his odd ways. What she doesn't realize is that she too is experiencing the "Han Vol Dan". As both women navigate there troubled pasts, they find love with men who are both captivating and adventurous.

I suggest that anyone who likes to read about romance and shape shifting read this novel. It was extremely entertaining and difficult to put down. I am now searching to see if there are any other novels by Feehan concerning these characters. I would love to find out how all of their lives progressed. And as you all know, this is the sign of a good writer, one who leaves you wanting more.

4.0 out of 5 stars You should see the trailor/teaser, October 31, 2006
This review is from: Fever (Leopard) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just happend to go to Mrs. Feehan's official website today and was delighted to find teaser/trailor's for her books. NOTE though, these are for the promotion of her books only and not movies.
I liked the Wild Rain trailor best. These teasers are somewhat cheesey. But it relly sparks up the imagination...You can even listen to a Carpathian Healing Chant. Cool!!!
Teaser/Trailors include all her books... the Drake sisters... The Dark Series... The Ghost Walker series... and Leopard Series... Go check out the site!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book but was disappointed, August 3, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fever (Leopard) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Book itself was very good but I was disappointed in it because both titles in the book I had read before in other books. They just reissued them together in one book. If you haven't read either book before I would definitely recommend this book because the stories in it are very good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ye Gods, please save me, July 18, 2011

Jees Louise - I like hotted up chick lit as much as the next person, but still, it has to have SOME sense to it. I couldn't make it further than the first 60 pages or so, I tried though, I really did. But the characters were unvelievable, the plot - I'm not sure there was one. Just to give you an idea, the heroine, Maggie, is introduced as a straight-laced vet who, finding herself in a jungle as part of a family-inheritance storyline, suddenly turns into a ravenous sex-hungry siren. You have to give Feehan credit for trying to be creative and descriptive in the depiction of the jungle and so, but the essentials of the book (character, theme, plot etc) are so lacking it's not funny. Or actually, it is. It's so bad it does actually give you a giggle if nothing else. I don't know, it's just after reading something like Richelle Mead's Succubus series (which, despite the title, is fantastic) it's hard to give any sort of credit to this type of crap.

I kinda started this series backwards. I was in the airport on day with a 4 hr flight ahead of me and saw a Feehan book in paperback. Burning Wild cover was staring at me and I devoured it. I was almost angry the plane was landing...

So I decided to go back to The Beginning...This truly was a wonderful start to the Rainforest and the Shifter series...So the only thing I can add at this point is continue...you will not be dissappointed...I still hear the birds and monkeys chirping with her delicious descriptions...
Next book ordered and another coming soon...I will be there
