1.0 out of 5 stars Fever
I felt that Fever was a horrible book. The main characters story always felt as if I was missing something. The book was all over the place and I kept going back to the back of the book just to remember who I was reading about.

Please don't get me started on the end of the book(there was no ending). I would not give this book to my worst enemy!

Two marriages on opposite coasts experiencing marital difficulties, though having nothing to do with each other, are impacted by one woman who is struggling with her own cross to bear. This is the story being told in Linda Dominique Grosvenor?s sequel to Like Boogie on Tuesday; Fever.

Tim Richardson, a filmmaker, and his wife Nina are experiencing the marital woes of loneliness and possible infidelity. Carla Robertson-Singleton, a teacher, and Sam Singleton, in real estate, are experiencing the marital woes of secrets. Troi Singleton, Nina?s sister and Carla?s best friend, is trying to get her life back together and raise a teenaged daughter. At one point or another all of them find themselves sitting in the middle of Troi?s living room wondering what has gone wrong in their lives and relationships

Ms. Grosvenor has written a good book that had me at word one. Since I haven't read her first book, Like Boogie on Tuesday, this was my first time reading this author. I thought the book was well written and it held my interest. I indeed became involved with the characters and emotionally affected by their choices. Some of the choices made seemed to come from a place I couldn?t relate to and it left me frustrated, yet thoughtful. Others choices I felt were right in line with my choices. Ms. Grosvenor does have the knack to stay true to her characters and I liked that a lot.

Although this is a sequel the book does stand on its on. I am sure that reading the first would give a clearer picture, however it is not necessary. It is very difficult for me to go back and read the first book after reading the sequel out of order but I know that eventually I will have to give Like Boogie on Tuesday a chance. Fever is a recommendable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Life!, October 31, 2003

I am a romance writer who's used to writing stories with some issues and happy endings. I write stories that help the reader escape. I loved "Fever" for its romance, but its no holds barred face off with the real issues women face. I love a good plot, but "Fever" was neatly balanced with an explosive plot and deeply drawn characters that made me mad, frustrated, and happy. I can't wait to read "Like Boogie on Tuesday", and all of Ms. Grosvenor's books! She truly has something to say to women of all races.

5.0 out of 5 stars deep relationship drama, January 18, 2003
This review is from: Fever (Hardcover)
Nina loves Tim, but resents the fact that he spends 110% of his time on his film. Ignoring Nina, Tim directs and produces his film while also working on distribution. Nina feels ignored and her own identity buried under the avalanche of being the wife of Tim the moviemaker. In spite of loving him and having given up her own career and Brooklyn home to accompany Tim to California, Nina decides she cannot compete with his mistress, film making so she flees Los Angeles for New York.

Sam loves Carla, but struggles with her inability to show she cares for him. However, Sam fails to really see what is mentally destroying Carla, who believes she cannot turn to her spouse for solace. She holds a secret that if revealed probably will destroy her marriage, his love for her, and ultimately her life.

Troi has been there and done that as a survivor of the downside of relationships. She has turned around her negatives into a positive. Feeling altruistic and mature, Troi wants to share her experience with these two couples struggling to survive after the initial rush of passion has ended.

Fans of deep relationship dramas starring real people struggling with their past and present will relish Linda Dominque Grosvenor?s strong insightful tale. The theme focuses on the exertions of the two couples to make it as a pair while not losing one?s own essence. Troi serves as the role of model/mentor as well as the literary device that links the couple?s subplots into a cohesive story line. FEVER is a fantastic reading experience.

Follow Tim and Nina as they continue on their journey of discovery, love and life. A page turner from the onset Fever was an enjoyable read and very much signature Grosvenor with her ability to put the reader smack dab in the middle of her characters. Ms. Grovenor?s style of writing is intoxicating. Fever is a captivating follow-up to its predecessor, and it was extremely hard for me to put this book down. The characters, introduced in Like Boogie on Tuesday, developed nicely into their experiences, and just when I thought I knew them, I realized that there was still so much more to learn. Bravo Ms. Grosvenor!

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S GETTIN' HOT IN HERE!, April 17, 2003
This review is from: Fever (Hardcover)
A read most worthy of its scorching title. In FEVER, you will share the lives of five colorful characters--two couples and one widow--each with some unique history tied to the other, as it relates to marriages on the brink of despair, strained friendships, and unforgivable heartbreaks. But the hardships that real-life people are unwilling to resolve, in their marriages and friendships, Grosvenor's characters muster the necessary will and strength to confront... and overcome.

To those young adults considering marriage for the first time, and to those couples who find themselves dealing with the downside of what began as a perfect marriage--please let this novel, FEVER, be your guide to what "the life" is truly about, and how couples should expect their committed vows to be tested but not necessarily break up, as often occurs, what God has brought together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, Compelling!, April 16, 2003
This review is from: Fever (Hardcover)
Fever is engaging with the continuing saga of the characters Tim, Nina, Troi, Carla, Sam etc. that had us spellbound in Like Boogie On Tuesday! Only Linda can make the episode of their lives feel like real people who are just as vunerable as people are today in our own lives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Issues hotter than 98.6!, February 8, 2003
By
aNN (Newport News, Virginia USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fever (Hardcover)
If your reading preference leans towards more mature
relationship stories where real people struggle with real
dilemmas, then Linda Dominique Grosvenor's sequel, FEVER,
will interest you! This story focuses on two couples, their
issues and their solutions.

Like Boogie On Tuesday ended with Tim and Nina contemplating
a relationship, Fever begins with its culmination. They are
now married and living in California but looking through
different colored glasses. Tim's are rose colored, Nina's are
not. Feeling as though she has lost herself and wondering if
she has lost the love of her husband, Nina's old insecurities
start to resurface. Tim knows he is not giving 100% to their
marriage but he so desperately wants to succeed in the film
industries. He needs just a little more time, and a foot in
the door and then his marriage will get his full attention.
When Tim's ex-girlfriend reappears and offers him that toe
hole, he is ready. Nina, feeling more neglected, wonders why
his 'ex' is in California anxious to help Tim, and if Tim is
willing to jeopardize everything to capture his dream?

Sam and Carla Singleton's marriage is slowly unraveling. Sam
wants more stability and Carla is skirting some issues.
Believing she does not deserve something good, Carla allows
herself to be compromised and is now struggling to maintain a
secret that is destroying her and her marriage. If she can
forgive herself and be honest with Sam their marriage just
might have a chance. Disenchanted with their life Sam is
starting to look elsewhere for something or someone to complete
him. As usual life deals and ill-timed blow and Carla'secret is
exposed before she has time to prepare herself or Sam. The
fallout is monumental and she must deal with the consequences.

If you remember Troi from Like Boogie..., you know she was
always the voice of reason. In Fever, she is still that as well
as the conduit that links the stories. Each of the couples'
stories are saturated with lots of details which at times
slowed the pace of the story for me; but again this can be a
plus or a minus, depending on one's reading preference. Fever
has a poplar storyline and realistic characters. This very
insightful read highlights the importance of good communication
in relationships.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating and well-written, January 26, 2003
By
BookRemarks (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fever (Hardcover)
If you enjoy books about the intricacies of friendships and marital relationships, Fever might be just what you're looking for.

This novel is a quick, delightful read that takes place in LA and NYC. Two married couples are both going through problems which have enough intensity to keep you turning the pages. How will they work things out? Did one wife go too far? Is this hurdle too big to jump over?

My greatest challenge was getting the characters mixed up. Although they had unique situations, some of them overlapped and it took a moment to figure out who was who. Other than that, Fever was an excellent read, used wonderful language, had believable dialogue, and realistic interactions amongst the characters.

It's highly recommended.
