Book Description

This laugh-out-loud, sizzling hot story had me hooked right from the start and didn't let go until the end
One for the Money meets Best in Show
Romance, mystery & dogs with personality, all wrapped up with humor
Delicious, humorous, and a cast of amazingly quirky characters make for a memorable read

Fur Ball Fever is a 96,000--word romantic crime mystery with loads of humor.

An impulsive pet spa owner who loses her client's prize pooch ...
After a lifetime of impetuous mistakes, Jersey Shore pet spa owner Grace Donnelly outdoes herself when a client’s prize poodle, a shoo-in to win the annual Fur Ball, goes AWOL while in her custody. With money, careers, and lives in jeopardy, Grace is not afraid to strap on the leather to go undercover in a fetish club looking for clues. Too bad her helpers consist of an aging hippie aunt, a renegade schnauzer, a drag queen, and a dominatrix or two. Worst of all, the only man truly qualified to help is her former flame, the most domineering male on the eastern seaboard.

A smokin' hot bodyguard with his own agenda ...
Texas-born security specialist Nick Jackson faces his worst nightmare when Grace's amateur investigation nearly blows his covert operation. Unless he nails the con-artist who scammed his home-town’s seniors and whacked a witness, his homicidal granddaddy will take justice into his own liver-spotted hands. To salvage his case, his sanity, and his ex-lover's velvety skin, Nick joins forces with the sassy crusader who rubs him the wrong way--and so many right ways too.

Together, they weather an explosion of murder, mayhem, and mystery ...
Action bounces from the upscale Shore community of Saltwater Estates to a beach harboring washed-up corpses, a fancy yacht no honest preacher could possibly afford, and the bawdiest nightclub in Atlantic City. Hazards multiply like bunnies, culminating in fun, danger, romance ... and a Fur Ball extravaganza the locals will never forget.

When Nick freed Grace's lips, her breath was coming hard and fast. Still gasping for air, she took another risk. “Most bondage scenarios revolve around a fantasy.” She paused for a beat, gathering her courage. “You said I’d be in charge,” she reminded him. “I want to act out a fantasy.”

He gave an audible gulp. “Anything specific?”

“Mmmm-hmmm,” she said around a deep, shuddering breath. One fantasy had tantalized her thoughts and tormented her dreams ever since she’d laid eyes on Nick. Breathing hard, she raised her head. “You’re the white knight. I’m a fair maiden you’re rescuing from the clutches of an evil ogre who has tied her up.”

His eyes blazed. “I can live with that, darlin’,” he said. “Is this fair maiden conscious or unconscious?”

A wave of hot desire thickened her speech. “Sleeping. The white knight is trying to awaken her.” Suffused with the heady liberation of surrender, Grace closed her eyes and held her breath. She didn’t have to see Nick to feel the heat of his gaze scalding her skin. The tension became unbearable.

Then the mattress sank under his weight. Although he didn’t touch her, his body radiated heat. The aroma of sandalwood and hungry male enveloped her. She compressed her lips on the moan that struggled to escape. If the white knight didn’t do something, and fast, she would jump clear out of her skin—if she wasn’t cuffed to the bed.

His mouth skimmed her cheek, trailed heat down her jaw line, feathered tiny kisses down her neck. He stopped above her right breast. She pictured him staring. Her nipples throbbed with anticipation, longing for the tug of his mouth. She held her breath, squeezed her eyes shut, forced her body to remain motionless. This was too good, too delicious, to break the spell. Her body was on fire simply from imagining his next move.

The mattress shifted. She opened one eye a slit to find him kneeling between her legs. Clenched and quivering, she waited for his next move.

Reviewed by Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite: ★★★★★ " . . . I really enjoyed Fur Ball Fever. Maureen Fisher wrote a book with a great plot, strong characters, a sense of humor and a good mystery. Fur Ball Fever is a perfect blend of good reading. I was emotionally attached to Grace and Nick. I laughed a lot at pot-smoking Auntie Beth, was tickled by Granddaddy Hiram and really didn't like the bad guys. Fur Ball Fever is warm and fuzzy, mean and tough, funny and I was hooked from the first word. I was sad when it was over; I didn't want it to end. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Great book to take along on your next vacation, read it on the plane, at the beach, just about anywhere."

"... I really enjoyed this book and the writing style of Maureen Fisher. This was a really funny book and I found myself laughing out loud at times (especially with how Aunt Beth was).

I recommend this book to mystery readers out there, animal lovers, and readers who want a good laugh.  You'll definitely enjoy this funny, mystery book." - Book Lovin' Mamas

About the Author

I write sassy romance novels containing a slice of adventure and enough steamy sex to drive those who dare read them racing for a cold shower. Nothing makes me happier than taking readers into another world, a world full of romance, adventure, humor, fun, and excitement.

Born in Scotland, I emigrated to Canada at the tender age of seven. Years later as a University of Toronto graduate, I convinced the federal government to hire a Fine Arts specialist as a computer programmer. After three years of bits, bytes, and dumps (probably not what you're thinking), I graduated again, this time to full-time homemaker and mom, raising two wonderful sons. Plunging back into the business world, my second husband and I started a management consulting company. This marriage survived because my husband and I pledged never to work on the same project again. Ever.

After a century in the consulting world, I grew weary of wearing snappy power suits, squeezing into panty hose, and fighting rush hour traffic. I made a life-changing decision. I wanted to write books. Not dry, boring, technical treatises, but fresh, funny romantic suspense novels. How hard could it be? Thousands of authors did it every year.

Always an over-achiever, I quit my day job, attended a one-week seminar on writing a novel, read a couple of how-to books, joined the Ottawa chapter of RWA, and plunged right in. Learning can be a humbling experience, but I persevered. I slaved. I revised. I learned. After twenty-five rejections, countless workshops, six-re-writes, and two first-prize wins, my efforts finally paid off with the sale of my first book.

My husband and I live in Ottawa where I volunteer for an addiction family program, play bridge, bicycle, hike, square dance, read (naturally), and slave over my computer to improve my writing skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars a hot fast-paced laugh out loud funny comedy September 14, 2011
By Maggie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I laughed out loud and so will you! This romantic comedy has a hero I adore. I love the way he talks and he looks like one of those men on the underwear boxes. I understood his reluctance to fall under the spell of this sassy heroine, who dares do anything, with or without him, which leads them into perilous waters. Perhaps this is not the place to confess my water fetish, but Nick looks great wet! Five stars all the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the Money meets Best in Show December 3, 2011
By Teresa
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Grace Donnelly charges head-first into every situation. Which is why security specialist Nick Jackson left her--even though they were scorching hot together. No way is he going to watch her get herself killed.

But when she demands his help finding a missing dog, his protective instincts kick in, even though it puts his own undercover operation in jeopardy.

Fans of Stephanie Plum and dog lovers should love this one--it revolves around a dog show in an exclusive New Jersey community.

Grace and Nick are really cute together (he's a hot southern guy--yowsa!), and the mystery sucked me in. The supporting characters, especially the pot-smoking aunt, made me laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fur Ball Fever December 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This laugh-out-loud, sizzling hot story had me hooked right from the start and didn't let go until the end. The chemistry between Grace and Nick was amusing, hot, exasperating and thoroughly enjoyable. The dogs added so much fun and personality to the story that I can easily see dog lovers going for this book in a big way. The "investigation" kept me guessing and the situations Grace managed to land herself in kept the story interesting and engaging. My favorite character was dear, crazy Aunt Beth. What a hilarious addition to an already fun read! Maureen Fisher is a very talented writer and I'm glad to have found my way to her books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fun December 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
"Fur Ball Fever" by Maureen Fisher caught my attention because I am a dog owner and I loved the idea of an entertaining crime read that involves dogs. I have to say that in that sub-genre the book is easily the best I have come across.
Grace owns Murphy, a slightly naughty dog but it is a client's dog that has gone missing. She recruits her ex Nick to help to locate the dog. Foul play is supected since the missing dog won awards and the investigation leads to some marvellously written situations and characters.
The screwball comedy and chemistry between the main leads is amazing and really funny but the book is full of other hilarious, colourful and memorable characters. Grace's aunt Beth was one of my favourites, but any dog owner will recognise and enjoy the odd suspects of the often competitive world of dog shows. I breed dogs and have had my share of odd encounters with people like that and many of the scenes in Fisher's book rang more than true to me.
There is also an entertaining 'kinky' subplot in the story; the romance part of the story is steamy in parts but not distractingly so.
I hate to use the often over-used review phrase but the book was a real page turner for me and made me read on when I should have been doing other things. It is that good.
Well written, amusing and full of life this is an excellent fun read that should find a lot of fans, not just amongst dog owners. I hope there will be a sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall a Fun and Sexy Read June 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this novel because it involved a good romance story that was part of the overall action. It was actually a sweet romance story and I liked the two main characters - Grace Donnelly and Nick Jackson. One of the things I really hate about many romance stories is that often the main characters are so annoying that you really don't care if they end up together. The trouble with romances is that there has to be a reason to keep the lovers apart for a good part of the story or you have no story. My least favorite method is to make the lovers both headstrong, feisty, stubborn or whatever you want to call it. They are just too stubborn to admit their feelings for each other.
In FUR BALL FEVER, the issue that kept the couple apart was that Grace could be too reckless and Nick worried too much about her to handle it. Grace was reckless, but it was often in an effort to help other people so she came across as quite likable. Nick's problem was that he was worried about her, and that made him likable as well.
In addition to the main characters, there was the delightful character of Aunt Beth who was an oddball stoner. In reading this book, I felt like I was reading something new. I didn't feel like I had seen these characters a million times before.
One flaw I noticed in this book was one that I am quite guilty of myself. Some scenes went on way too long and I found myself skimming some parts. Sometimes you love your characters so much that you go on too long and you need an editor to tell you when to scale back.Sometimes it's tough to cut your work down, but it's vital to keep the story running at a good pace.
Overall, I enjoyed this story very much and highly recommend it for a fun, entertaining read.
