5.0 out of 5 stars Tenor Saw, January 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
Tenor Saw's lyric's were first heard in 1985 with LOTS OF SIGNS (a version of the original sung by Bob Marley)and PUMPKIN BELLY to the Sleng Teng Rythym which dominated the dancehalls or sessions at that time, under the JAMMYS Label of Jamaica. By 1986 with Fever, he had created his own style of music and was well on his way to reggae stardom. However, his life was short lived upon his death in the late eighties. His smooth voice is a miss to the reggae world and is still missed up until today!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the greatest Reggae album and one of the greatest albums of all times., March 6, 2006
This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
The music of my boyhood idol..Tenor Saw 1966-1988. He recorded one album while he was alive and it immortalised him in the pages of reggae history.

Tenor saw burst onto the scene via Sugar Minnotts youth promotions label with the greatest of all dancehall songs; Ring the alarm.

This song was one of the first of the reggae digital era on the great stalag riddim and many songs have been sung to this riddim but Ring the alrm stands above them all.

Shortly after he recorded this song he produced this album fever which is the greatest dancehall album that will vere be made....all the songs are hits and to listen to it and to know that he was killed by a hit and run driver and left on the streets of Houston Texas thus bringing an end to the life of this 22 year old legend simply brings me to tears of sorrow.

Simply a great album ...

5.0 out of 5 stars A talent very missed, October 3, 2000
This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
What an album massive. Tenor Saw had a way of making the listener feel like he was singing directy to them. This album not only has some of the great original dancehall riddims, but also some crucial dancehall classics. 'Roll Call' is by far my favorite as Tenor sings about when the Roll will be called in the dancehall, when it is all said and done, who will be there. What a tragedy that one of the main artists Saw says will be there, Nitty Gritty, along with himself, are both gone now due to violent deaths. The music will live on forever though. Bless-ed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dancehall King, February 23, 2009

This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
There was no singer/chanter in the mid 80's better than Tenor Saw. This is the best single recording of his that exists. Unfortunately, this c/d doesn't have his greatest moment; "ring the alarm". The last half of this c/d is made up of dubs that drop his voice out and add little else interesting in the void created.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definate Classic, but the others are missing..., February 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
Not to belittle this record- I have owned and cherished it for several years. Several undeniable classics- Roll Call, Fever, Pumpkin Belly- can be found on this record (by the way, to the reviewer above who wrote that Tenor was pre-sleng teng, listen to 'Pumpkin Belly' again. I cannot help but tell you that, in fact, that is none other than the Sleng Teng riddim he is blessing). However, my compliant is that it does not feature other Tenor Saw hits that I have never found on CD, including the ORIGINAL version of 'Fever' that Tenor Saw released. Alright, i will admit: I am not sure if the version I am thinking of was recorded before the one on this album.

But someone needs to track down this other version. The lyrics are the similar but not the same ('a little a dis an a little a dat, the girls demma bubble like a soup in a pot..','fever, my God, dis ya sound ina fever..hey') and the riddim is different-computerized as well, but .. I dont know- eerie? Dub effects and so on. I would say maybe it was recorded special as a dub plate for a sound system, but I used to hear it all the time in the clubs in the late eighties, and I have a partial recording of it on tape.

Someone- find this other version, buy the rights, put it on a CD with the other Tenor Saw hits that are not on the above CD(Ring the Alarm, Black Roses..what else am I forgetting?) and you will have my money in a split second.

I just ordered this CD - haven't received it yet, so I guess you could say I'm not qualified to write a review. We11, I know what's on it. I've been looking for this CD ever since I started my reggae collection. I now own over 400 reggae CD's and this album will be among my very best! What more can I say? We'll never see another Tenor Saw.
